Weingart Center Association Staff Accountant in Los Angeles, California
Position Overview:
The Staff Accountant plays a key strategic role in the financial management of the organization by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and supporting various financial processes. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position is responsible for managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing monthly and annual financial reports, contributing to the development and revision of program budgets, and conducting thorough financial analysis. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of precision, a strong analytical mindset, and a proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to apply creative and strategic thinking to enhance financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports and statements, ensuring timely delivery to internal stakeholders. Conduct monthly reviews with program managers to provide insights into budget performance and financial trends.
- Collaborate in the preparation, revision, and ongoing analysis of program budgets, align financial strategies with organizational goals and ensuring resource optimization.
- Oversee general ledger transactions, including monthly reconciliations, allocations, and journal entries. Ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions to maintain integrity and compliance.
- Assist with accounts payable processes, including invoice processing and check printing. Support accounts receivable tasks, including generating and distributing monthly invoices to partner agencies.
- Contribute to audit preparation, ensuring that all necessary documentation is available and accurate for both internal and external audit processes.
- Partner effectively with internal teams, funders, and other stakeholders to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights. Ensure transparency and clarity in financial communications.
- Identify areas for process improvement and work collaboratively with the team to implement best practices for financial management, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Support the Controller with ad-hoc financial projects, as needed, contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience in accounting, with hands-on experience in general ledger, financial reporting, and bank reconciliations.
- Experience in non-profit accounting is preferred.
- Experience working will Billing.com required.
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and processes, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger management, and bank reconciliation.
- Proficient in performing complex numerical work with speed and precision.
- Excellent ability to interpret and analyze both financial data and complex written instructions.
- Strong relationship-building skills with internal teams, external partners, and government agencies.
