WSP USA Senior Vice President, Civil Engineering in Los Angeles, California

This Opportunity

WSP seeks to hire a Senior Vice President to lead WSP’s California Civil and Ground Engineering (CGE) Service Line (Local Business Leader) in our Earth & Environment Business Line , based in any of the large metropolitan centers in California. The candidate will play a key strategic leadership role in the California Region as we continue to strengthen and expand our civil, geotechnical, geohazards and ground-engineering services. WSP is playing a critical role in the growth and development throughout the powerhouse economy in California, partnering key public state and municipal government agencies and Fortune 500 private sector clients. The LBL role also is a leader in leveraging cross collaboration with other WSP business-lines such as Transport and Infrastructure (T&I), Property and Buildings (P&B), Energy, Water, Federal, Advisory Services, and Project Management and Construction Management (PMCM) to bring value to our clients. Clients

  • Drives performance of the Civil, Ground Engineering (CGE) Service Line business and, working with other senior practitioners and business-lines, strategically grows our market share to fulfill our goal that WSP become the preferred, trusted advisor to our clients.

  • Manages local client coordination and cross-selling efforts in coordination with the broader California Region and National Client and Sector Teams.

  • Integrates as the “face of the company” across the State of California, attending civic and industry events, conferences, and forums ranging from ACEC, Chamber of Commerce, and other relevant industry organizations.

  • Brings an expanded view and integrated response to complex challenges by leveraging our full suite of offerings across all end-markets.

  • Utilizes our extended reach of technical and subject matter experts (SMEs) across the region, offices and the globe to foster new and innovative client delivery.

People & Culture

  • Works with the Regional Business Line Leader to attract the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking – crafting a more attractive place to work, grow and thrive.

Operational Excellence

  • Optimizes the client and employee experience through regular reviews while embracing process improvement.

  • Focuses on innovation and collaboration with a focus on maintaining and improving quality.

  • Develops regional growth, forecast and business development strategy in collaboration with Region Business-Line Leader and National Sector Leaders.

  • Resolves conflict and other internal/external issues that may arise in the office, amongst WSP’s client base, or on projects.

  • Collaborates with regional service line and business-line leaders to drive operating performance and growth of the CGE business. Responsible for overall profit and loss (P&L) and operating performance of the Service-Line, including improving performance of project portfolios, oversee overhead expenditures, and other Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): Sales, Funding, EBITDA, Staff Hiring and Retention, DSO, Utilization, Backlog, Quality, Safety, Inclusion & Diversity and Guiding Principles.

Expertise

  • Leverages our broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.

  • Fosters the development of new and emerging innovations to remain the trusted thought leaders in our industry.

  • Advances the strategic direction of the region in the service-line of responsibility for sustained and continued growth consistent within the context of the strategic plan.

  • Encourages, supports and promotes the technical and professional development of local WSP staff, including participation in national/global technical practice area communities and industry organizations to reinforce WSP as a thought-leader in this space.

  • Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geology or closely related discipline.

  • 15+ years of relevant post education experience in the A/E/C industry with a strong focus in civil and ground engineering.

  • Comprehensive experience in at least one or more of: general civil engineering in transportation & infrastructure, land development, site civil, mining and solid waste sectors.

  • California Professional Engineer license required.

  • Demonstrated experience of leadership, personal accountability, persistence, and growth.

  • Ability to innovate and re-think the conventional approach to client and employee engagement.

  • Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes. Experience in managing group-level operations.

  • Sound decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice.

  • Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts in the local area.

  • Commitment to internal and external client service.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Ph.D. or master’s degree in Civil Engineering whose area of specialization is Geotechnical Engineering

  • Licensed California Geotechnical Engineer

  • 10+ years experience in engineering consultancy

  • Strong track record in client development and business development

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $149,600 - $367,800

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
