UCLA Health Senior Network Engineer (fixed-hybrid) in Los Angeles, California

Description

Under the direction of the Manager of IT Network, the Network Engineer is responsible for the implementation and support of network equipment, network software, daily operational incidents, service request tickets, network and VoIP break/fix support, incident escalation, network maintenance, and network configuration. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that policies, standards, procedures, and how-to documents are utilized and followed.

Provide day-to-day support of the 24 x 7 production environment of ISS Enterprise network (core, distribution, wired & wireless access layers, IPAM, DHCP, VoIP systems, WAN, and network monitoring). Network Engineer's role functions also include, but are not limited to enterprise project deliverables, project tasks, project documentation, build, installation, performance monitoring, optimization, troubleshooting, and maintenance of a variety of systems of the network. The incumbent will stay abreast, learn, and support new network technologies as they are deployed to the UCLA Health environment. The Network Engineer will also participate in the weekly rotational after-hours 24x7 on-call support and perform other assigned tasks as needed by departmental requirements.

This is a flex-hybrid role which will require you to be onsite at least 20% of time, within 2 hours of being asked to come in, or as required by operational need; there are no reimbursements for travel to "home office" location.

Each employee must complete a FlexWork Agreement with their manager which will outline arrangement parameters and aids both parties in fully understanding expectations. Arrangements are regularly evaluated, and are subject to termination.

Salary offers are determined based on various factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, and equity. The full salary range for this position is $95,900 - $222, 100 annually. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is approximately $150,000 to $170,000 annually.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, electronics engineering or a related field, and five years of experience; or Master's degree and 3 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Experience analyzing end-user business needs and devising effective cost-efficient recommendations.

  2. Demonstrated experience writing clear, precise, detailed, comprehensive, and grammatically correct letters, memos, reports, policies and procedures.

  3. Experience communicating with product end-users.

  4. Demonstrated experience working both independently and in team-oriented environment.

  5. Experience researching and testing new communication and networking technologies and processes

  6. Demonstrated knowledge of DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP

  7. Demonstrateddata networking skills including IP & Ethernet routing and switching based network design; experience with testing and implementations utilizing the OSI seven layer model; experience working with industry protocols including OSPF, HSRP, EIGRP, BGP, TCP/IP, 802.1x, IPSec, Radius, and TACACS1. Experience using network protocol analyzers and sniffers including WireShark and Fluke tools. Experience deciphering packet captures.

  8. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of IEEE 802.11 wireless standards and Aruba wireless controllers.

  9. Experience supporting VoIP and ISP services support systems for network management including Voice technologies utilizing IP switching and routing architectures.

  10. Experience working with VLAN, VRF, HSRP, Port Security, Traffic Shaping, Priority Queuing, and Class of Service (CoS).

  11. Demonstrated knowledge of different cabling types including multimode fiber, single-mode fiber, LC versus SC, 10/100/1000BaseX, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and RJ45.

  12. Experience utilizing troubleshooting tools including traceroute, ping, mtr, nmap, netstat, ipconfig or ifconfig, and iperf

  13. Experience providing communication system status reports to management or support personnel.
