Overview

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The destruction or dysfunction of insulin-secreting pancreatic beta cells underlies the pathogenesis of diabetes. The Georgia Lab at CHLA focuses on focuses on how life stressors-such as genetic mutations, adverse childhood events, pregnancy, and disease affect beta cell differentiation, regeneration, metabolism, function and survival. The Research Specialist for the Georgia Lab will assist faculty and staff in designing and implementing research projects. Specifically, the Research Specialist will be responsible for maintaining lines of pluripotent stem cells in vitro and managing in vivo transgenic model systems. This Research Specialist will independently plan, prepare, and conduct a wide variety of routine and non-routine (complex) laboratory procedures. They will be expected to participate in multiple projects at a time. They will records, tabulate, and analyze data and assist with the preparation of papers, posters, and scientific publications. The Research Specialist will work with the Laboratory Manager to assist in training staff and may provide functional supervision to assigned laboratory personnel.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience:

Minimum Qualifications holding a Bachelor’s degree:

5 or more years of experience performing independent laboratory research experiments.

Minimum Qualifications holding a Master’s degree:

3 or more years of experience performing independent laboratory research experiments.

Education/Licensure/Certification: A minimum Bachelors’ degree, in a related scientific field (e.g., biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or psychology). Masters’ degree or above (Preferred).

Pay Scale Information

USD $44,304.00 - USD $79,872.00

Final determination of a successful candidate’s starting pay will vary based on a number of factors, including, but not limited to education and experience within the job or the industry. The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
