Job Title: ER Financial Representative

Schedule: Rotating weekends required. Please note that orientation hours may differ from shift hours.

Position Summary: The ER Financial Representative plays a crucial role in ensuring reimbursement from patients or responsible parties. This position assists patients in understanding their healthcare insurance coverage, determining eligibility, benefits, and utilization requirements. Responsibilities include up-front POS collections, setting up financial arrangements to avoid bad debt, and guiding patients in accessing programs such as Medi-Cal and Hospital Presumptive Eligibility. The ER Financial Representative expedites approvals by completing forms before patient discharge from the Emergency department. Interaction with patients occurs after a medical screening exam. Comprehensive training and certification for Hospital Presumptive Eligibility qualifications are provided as required.

Education/Experience/Training: Required:

• 2+ years experience in front office/medical billing or hospital registration/admitting

• 2+ years experience in insurance verification or medical/hospital billing

• High school graduate or equivalent

• Knowledge of Medi-Cal, Hospital Presumptive Eligibility Program, Medicare, Covered California, Cobra, limited benefit plans, VVC, and Uncompensated Care Programs

• IPA and EMTALA knowledge and experience

• Strict adherence to HIPAA laws

• Medical terminology knowledge

• strong typing skills (45+ wpm required)

Preferred:

• Evidence of continuing education in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration

• bilingual proficiency

salary: $26.32 - $26.33 per hour

work hours: 8 AM - 5 PM

Responsibilities

Completes a minimum of 20 registrations but strives for up to 30+ registrations per 8 hr shift which includes scanning documents, insurance verification and securing upfront collections. Verifies patients are appropriately medically screened and stabilized before Consent of Admissions is signed/discussed and or liability is requested.
