The Viterbi School of Engineering's Information Technology Program (ITP) is excited to announce an opportunity for a Student Services Advisor I to join our team. This new position is designed to enhance our advising capabilities and support the expanding needs of our student body. As a vital member of the ITP staff, the successful candidate will play a key role in curriculum planning, academic counseling, and the execution of student recruitment strategies. This role is suited for someone passionate about fostering student success, streamlining educational processes, and enhancing the overall student experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Scheduling Coordinator, collaborating with faculty and external agencies to plan and execute the semester class schedule.

  • Act as the Curriculum Coordinator, overseeing the submission and approval of new curriculum changes and reviewing course requests.

  • Provide comprehensive academic counseling to both undergraduate and graduate students, advising on curriculum, program requirements, and transfer credit evaluations.

  • Monitor student progress towards completing minors, specializations, and certificates, and maintain accurate student records and advising databases.

  • Interface with faculty and administrators on grading policies, academic progress, and student promotability, ensuring a seamless advising experience.

  • Tackle student issues by providing direct support or referring to appropriate services, facilitating problem resolution.

  • Lead recruitment efforts, from planning outreach programs to representing ITP at university events, and engage in strategies to attract prospective students.

  • Offer career guidance to students and alumni, organize career events, and maintain a network of potential employers and career resources.

  • Assist in producing and coordinating various communication materials, such as bulletins, newsletters, and brochures, potentially overseeing production by external vendors.

  • Participate in and provide support to committees addressing student services issues, contributing to program, school, or university initiatives.

  • Provide administrative support for academic operations, including textbook orders, scheduling, and curriculum updates.

  • Help organize special programs and events, enhancing the ITP community's engagement and learning opportunities.

  • Manage and enhance ITP’s social media presence, connecting with students and stakeholders digitally.

  • Stay informed on and contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to student services, ensuring compliance and the promotion of best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 1 year of experience in student programs or services, demonstrating a commitment to student development and success.

  • Proficiency in managing complex scheduling and curriculum coordination tasks.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively counsel students and collaborate with faculty and staff.

  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • An innovative thinker with the ability to develop and implement effective recruitment and career support strategies.

  • Competency in digital communication and social media management.

This position will have a hybrid schedule with three days on site and 2 days remote.

The hourly rate range for this position is $28.43 - $31.92.
