What You Will Do

Join our team at LANL and play a pivotal role in delivering top-tier safety training and education services that directly enhance workforce preparedness, compliance, and operational excellence. As a key contributor, you'll ensure that laboratory personnel are equipped to execute their mission safely and effectively, partnering with Subject Matter Experts to design, update, and evaluate dynamic training programs. Your diverse course portfolio will include Crane Operations, Mechanical Material Handling, HAZWOPER, Fire Extinguisher Training, and Hazardous Materials Packaging and Transportation . By leveraging best practices in adult learning, you will craft high-quality course materials and deliver engaging, impactful instruction to LANL professionals.

As a Learning Specialist 2, you'll collaborate with customers and stakeholders to develop training programs that meet regulatory and contractual requirements while providing engaging and effective learning experiences. Recognized for your expertise, you will offer innovative solutions and apply industry best practices, shaping concepts, techniques, and standards. With the ability to operate independently, you will lead both individual and team projects that support LANL's critical missions.

In this role, safety and security are paramount. You will ensure compliance with all protocols, maintain necessary training, and take decisive action if safety or security is ever compromised. You will contribute to the organization's goals while leading live instruction and managing regulatory-compliant training courses. Working closely with Subject Matter Experts, you'll ensure programs meet customer needs, regulatory standards, and contractual requirements. You will provide professional guidance on interpreting policies to ensure compliance, develop essential documents, and research and recommend practical training solutions. Utilizing the ADDIE training model, you will create top-notch learning materials for a range of formats-live, on-the-job, or web-based-and contribute to special projects. Finally, you'll help foster an inclusive, collaborative workplace that is free from discrimination and harassment.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communications.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of common computer-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Office) and the use of computer-based applications for course development.

  • Knowledge of learning theory and performance-based training techniques.

  • Knowledge of the applicable document control and record management processes.

  • Knowledge of the ADDIE systematic approach to training model.

Education Learning Specialist 2 : Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience ; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Technical trade or instructional experience in Crane Operations, Mechanical Material Handling, HAZWOPER, Fire Extinguishers, and Hazardous Materials Packaging and Transportation .

  • Knowledge of Laboratory policies and procedures pertaining to training.

  • Basic understanding of the Laboratory's training management systems and related information data systems (e.g., Oracle or current successor system).Basic knowledge of DOE training, qualification, and readiness drivers and requirements as they pertain to nuclear facilities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of content design process including visual design, photography, videography, online design Web and authoring software tools.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 Year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
