Los Alamos National Laboratory Financial Systems Manager 4 in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Group Leader, Business Systems (Financial Systems Manager 4), to support LANL's Lab-wide finance and accounting business systems.

In this position, the Group Leader will work closely with finance and accounting senior managers and internal Laboratory organizations to set the requirements, processes, and objectives for current and future financial business system enhancements. The Group Leader will have the responsibility for managing the planning, development, and implementation of the Laboratory's business systems and for the maintenance, modification, and enhancement of these critical systems.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills essential for managing a team of over 20 system professionals, with a proven ability to inspire, mentor, and develop team members to achieve their full potential. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for developing strategies to streamline business systems and contribute significantly to the long-term ERP strategy, ensuring that technology initiatives are effectively aligned with the organization's broader business objectives. The ability to see the big picture and make informed decisions that balance immediate needs with future goals is crucial. Given the role's significant involvement in implementing a new ERP system in the future, the candidate must be at the forefront of emerging technologies, leading their team in identifying, evaluating, and implementing innovative tools and systems that enhance process and system efficiency to drive the organization forward.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Leadership and Team Management:

Advanced and demonstrated experience in performance management, employee development, and succession planning. Demonstrated accomplishments and leadership for a business systems organization, customer and stakeholder relations, and cost-effective delivery of Information Technology (IT) services. Extensive experience in managing team dynamics, resolving conflicts, and fostering a collaborative environment. Demonstrated experience working and partnering with cross-functional teams both functional and technical.

Business Systems:

Extensive experience managing business system requirements, analysis and troubleshooting, business process modeling and re-engineering, data and function analysis, systems design and testing and implementation and review of working system solutions. In-depth knowledge of accounting, financial concepts and principles and related activities. Advanced knowledge and prior experience with ERP systems, particularly Oracle EBS or similar platforms (SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle Cloud). Strong and proven record of leading ERP implementations, upgrades, migrations, as well as extensive understanding of the complexities involved in integrating these systems with existing tools and technologies, including leading change management efforts.

Technical Proficiency and Innovation Orientation:

Demonstrated experience and proven success in managing finance and accounting business systems. Extensive hands-on experience in system integration and advancement. Extensive experience and expertise in advising senior management on the conception, definition, and acquisition of improved hardware and software for systems integration and improvement. Extensive experience identifying, evaluating and implementing new tools and systems that streamline processes. In-depth knowledge and demonstrated understanding of emerging technologies like cloud computing, Artificial Intelligence, data analytics and how they can be integrated into existing systems.

Experience using Microsoft Office Suite i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams for effective professional communication.

Education/Experience:

Position requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited institution and 8 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Expertise in business systems, e.g., Oracle, Concur, Empath, MicroStrategy Enterprise Reporting, Pricing and Estimating Module (PEM)

  • Master's in Management Information Systems (MIS), CPA, or MBA

  • Extensive experience leading large-scale ERP implementation efforts consolidating a multitude of peripheral processes and systems

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
