Los Alamos National Laboratory Administrative Access Control System Technician (Computer and Information Security Technician 2/3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Physical Security System (SEC-PSS) group at Los Alamos National Laboratory provides technical support for the administrative badge reader and the security badge reader systems at the Laboratory. As a valuable member of the Administrative Access Control System (AACS) Team, you will become fully proficient in fabricating, installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment for the Access Control Security Systems.

Computer and Information Security Technician 2 $52,400 - $80,600

  • The successful candidate will:

  • Become familiar with the AACS badging systems.

  • Become familiar with LANL policies and AACS internal procedures.

  • Work under other subject matter experts (SME) for guidance and training.

  • Become experienced in fabricating, installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment for badge reader systems.

  • Learn to maintain parts inventory and work with the AACS ticketing system.

  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and equipment.

  • Perform some non-routine tasks requiring the exercise of independent judgment.

Computer and Information Security Technician 3 $57,800 - $89,500

  • Will become proficient with the inner workings of the AACS badging systems.

  • Will work on tasks with little to no supervision.

  • Will work on new installation projects with little to no supervision.

  • Interact more with internal leadership as well as outside organizations to accomplish work tasks, including projects.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • 1-2 years working with electronic practices and principles.

  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, electronic equipment, or computer hardware and software including applications and programming.

  • Knowledge of using standard electronic testing equipment.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and to work in a team environment.

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Job Requirements for Computer and Information Security Technician 3:

  • 2-4 years working with electronic practices and principles.

  • Knowledge of and experience with access control systems.

  • Ability to read, and understand blueprints.

  • Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and repair computer hardware to component level.

Education/Experience at Computer and Information Security Technician 2 level: The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years of directly related experience.

Education/Experience at Computer and Information Security Technician 3 level: The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and 2-4 years of previous experience gained through training in a specific field of technology. Technical institute graduate or associate's degree may be preferred.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of a work control ticketing system.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the organization and mission of the Laboratory and the Security Directorate.

  • Experience and knowledge in systems management, computer operations, hardware and software configurations, system recovery procedures, peripheral operations, or network interfaces.

  • Knowledge of Apollo networking equipment and configuration.

Work Environment: Work indoors and outdoors, working alone, and some overtime or irregular schedule may be necessary. Working in a small team environment will also be necessary.

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q/SCI (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test : The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
