PeaceHealth is seeking a Pharmacy Technician II for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Variable position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $23.68 – $32.44. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Continuously exemplifies the mission, values and customer service philosophy of PeaceHealth in job performance and in relationships to others. Performs technical job functions that assist the pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care. Job functions are product related.

DETAILS OF POSITION:

  • All work must be performed and checked under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.

  • May prepare IV’s, PCA’s, Epidurals and labels all IV products.

  • May prepare chemotherapeutic intravenous medications as requested to include any hazardous drugs as defined by USP 800.

  • May package drugs into unit dose packaging and maintains packaging records.

  • May run fill-lists and prepares medications for Cubies and Pyxis stations.

  • Delivers medications and IV’s to patient care areas.

  • Delivers controlled substances to patient care areas, takes controlled substance physical inventories and reconciles substance inventory counts.

  • May file completed prescriptions alphabetically on the shelf for patient pickup.

  • May answer the outpatient window and ring out refills when specifically requested to do so by a pharmacist where no counseling is deemed necessary if applicable.

  • May fill outpatient prescriptions for pharmacist checking. This function is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and the accuracy of the prescription contents is checked and initialed by a licensed pharmacist.

  • May operate cash register and related front counter tasks if applicable.

  • Reconstitutes medication by adding a specific quantity of distilled water requiring no calculation. In 100% of the cases, the accuracy of the technician is check and the work initialed by a licensed pharmacist.

  • Handles nonprofessional phone calls from patients, provider offices and staff.

  • May enter outpatient prescriptions into the computer and prepare labels for medications to be checked by the pharmacist.

  • May keypunch patient charges and credits.

  • May purchase medications from suppliers, checks in the order, processes invoices, credits and backorders. Restocks medications on the shelves as needed.

  • Inspects medications for outdates in patient care area Pyxis stations on a monthly basis and in central pharmacy as assigned.

  • Participates in quality improvement activities as requested by management.

  • Participates in educational in-services as requested by management.

  • Promotes a safety-conscious work environment.

  • Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.

  • Must pass and be competent on all practical and written IV competencies assigned by Pharmacy leadership. Must work a minimum frequency of shifts preparing IV admixtures as defined by departmental leadership to maintain competencies.

  • Must demonstrate expert skill and ability during IV video IV audits.

  • Must pass written and video competencies assigned by Pharmacy leadership.

  • Must adhere to all Sterile Competency Policies and Procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Accredited Program Required: Pharmacy Technician from a Pharmacy Commission-approved technician training program.

  • Minimum of 1 year Preferred: Experience in hospital pharmacy utilizing unit dose, IV admixtures and pharmacy computer systems.

  • Preferred: Experience with Excel and Work.

  • Required: Certified Pharmacy Technician - National.

  • Required: Certified Pharmacy Tech - Washington.

Working Conditions

Lifting

  • Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.

  • Occasional squatting/ kneeling/ bending.

  • Fine motor skills to be able to grasp to perform precise procedures frequently.

  • Frequent reaching.

  • Lift/Carry: Occasionally up to 30 lbs.

  • Push/Pull: Occasionally up to 14 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Mental/Visual

  • Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
