Overview

The basic objective of the position is to develop and implement training programs to promote high standards for employee performance in terms of technical proficiency, the environment, safety, productivity, customer focus and ethical behavior. This position contributes to the success of the Company by providing a motivated, well-trained workforce to meet the needs of customers and various stakeholders. The Instructor responsibilities are as follows: Develop and update training curriculum and aides, instructor guides, student guides, tests, training media, eLearning courses, etc. Conduct training of employees and contractors in the skills required to perform their jobs. Conduct training of customers, as required. Assist employees for possible career development. Evaluate trainee performance when required for qualifications. Evaluate procedures, technology, and equipment relative to training. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of TLC processes and programs.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Ensure that all assigned courses have current learning objectives, course outlines, instructor guides, student manuals, training aids, tests, media and centralized document control.
  • Adapt to changing training demands (e.g., be available for ad-hoc, off-hour and/or off-site training).
  • Coordinate with field personnel to ensure alignment of training with operations, including active participation in Training Effectiveness Committees (TECs) and field visits, including taking the lead in special projects, and a defined role in TECs such as co-chair or scribe.
  • Update and maintain eTrain and Learning Management System (LMS) records. Produce and utilize reports from TLC portal.
  • Support new training programs to meet the needs of the Company and operating organizations.
  • Evaluate student performance of those being trained, or tested for a position, title change, or advancement in title.
  • Maintain inventory of the materials required to conduct training.
  • Assist in the development of Digital Learning Tools (for example eBook, eLearning, Micro Learning, videos, VR and AR).
  • Stay informed of operating incidents and accidents, issues, procedures, lessons learned, etc. Communicate these to the training staff and students, where applicable.
  • Provide technical expertise to operating organizations and other parties regarding equipment, materials, safety and operating procedures.
  • Maintain necessary certificates/licenses and training required to return to the field.
  • Support line organizations in emergency and contingency situations.
  • Market our programs to external customers and seek ways to use our facilities and resources to meet external customers needs.
  • Maintain housekeeping responsibility for assigned rooms and areas and ensure compliance requirements are met, as assigned (e.g., fire extinguisher inspections, battery inspections, TLCs Hazardous Energy Control Procedure, etc.).
  • Perform field and records audits to ensure compliance with Company and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop the ability to and routinely conduct effective training in multiple technical disciplines.
  • Participate in self-development activities, training certifications (train the trainer) and benchmarking with other corporations, vendors, manufacturers and utilities along with participation in industry conferences to stay abreast of training best practices, emerging technologies and new educational techniques in order to identify and implement training enhancements.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments, as required. (for example, proctoring tests).
  • Update and maintain eTrain or any future Learning Management System (LMS) and ITS records.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the development and administering of testing when needed.
  • Ensure the validity and security of all hands-on tests. Maintain test files and statistical testing data for the company. Ensure that tests are entered into the company's Learning Management System (LMS) and ITS.
  • Ensure that test results are fairly and accurately scored utilizing manual processes and following corporate procedures. Ensure confidentiality of test results and recommendations.
  • Ensure that all test administration is carried out in compliance with relevant Company policies, regulations, guidelines and standards.
  • Complete Gas Operator Qualifications within the first 12 months.
  • Qualify in a minimum of 3 Customer Operations Curriculum within the first 12 months.
  • Cross train in other training disciplines; First Aid CPR - required
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
  • Support Digital Learning Program Manager in the project management process/development.
  • Participate in TLC developmental program.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • High School Diploma/GED and with 5 years of relevant work experience in area of expertise
  • or
  • Associate's Degree and with 4 years of relevant work experience in area of expertise.
  • or
  • Bachelor's Degree and with 3 years of relevant work experience in area of expertise.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills required. Required
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills required. Required
  • Should be certified or be capable of becoming First Aid, CPR/AED certified, Hand Signal training, Confined Space training, and other external safety certifications as needed. Required
  • Demonstrate high energy level, flexibility and the ability handle multiple tasks and assignments while working under tight deadlines. Required
  • Strong organizational, administrative, decision making and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and a solid teamwork orientation. Required

  • Experience/knowledge of Corporate LMS. Required
  • Familiar with curriculum development or instructional design. Required
  • Hands-on experience with computer software programs, including Microsoft Office products required. Required
  • Demonstrate ability to incorporate new and innovative technology to enhance processes. Required
  • Strong project management skills. Required
  • Experience with eTrain and TLC Portal. Preferred

Additional Physical Demands
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be willing to travel within the Con Ed and/or O&R service territory, as needed.
  • Must be able to participate in the Companys emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
