New Directions Youth and Family Services Teacher Aide in Lockport, New York

Position: Teachers Aide Position Summary: We are looking for an applicant to help our students throughout the school day. This may included helping them with their work, keeping them on task during class, supporting them in times of frustration and more. Your help will support the classroom team to ensure our students progress toward the goals and objectives outlined in both their Individual Education Plan and the Service Plan.

Minimum Education and/or Professional Qualifications/Skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent (required)

  • Teacher Assistant Certification (preferred)

  • Experience with emotionally disturbed and/or learning disabled students (preferred)

Job Description

Job Title: Teacher Aide Department: HGLCS Title of Immediate Supervisor: Teacher POSITION SUMMARY: To aid the Teacher in directing the academic, social, and emotional growth of students so that each student progresses toward the goals and objectives outlined in both the Individual Education Plan and the Service Plan. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: 1. To aid the classroom Teacher in directing student behavior and activities so that the accomplishment of goals is facilitated. 2. Create a learning climate that is conducive to the student’s intellectual, social, and emotional development. 3. Maintain records of student progress. 4. Work with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects. 5. Provide information that will assist in the development of appropriate learning experiences. 6. Develop classroom materials. 7. Assist students in the use of available resources. 8. Supervise students as they move between instructional areas. 9. Provide supervision in hallways or lunchroom when necessary. 10. Operate reproduction and other clerical devices. 11. Perform other duties as required by the Principal. 12. Attend Service Plan Reviews if requested by Teacher. 13. Support Campus School wide PBIS Program. 14. Maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and First Aid/CPR certification provided by the agency. 15. Attend all mandatory in-service training and regularly attends supervision meetings. Attends other training and in-services as needed to maintain a level of expertise in the field. 16. Any additional duties assigned by immediate supervisor. SKILL, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Minimum Education and/or Professional Qualifications/Skills  High School diploma or equivalent.  Teacher Assistant Certification Preferred.  Experience with emotionally disturbed and/or learning disabled students preferred but not required. Must comply with Agency safety standards and be responsible for own actions and conduct concerning safety and healthy working conditions.
