What Success Looks Like In This Job

Accept temporary work assignments when regularly scheduled personnel are unavailable. Perform various duties to assist in implementing instructional activities tailored to the needs and skills of young children.

Examples of Duties for Success

  • Effectively manage the preschool classroom in the absence of the regular teacher.

  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the social, emotional, and cognitive development of each child.

  • Follow and implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, ensuring continuity in the educational program.

  • Adapt lessons as needed to accommodate the individual needs and interests of children.

  • Assist in planning and implementing daily, weekly, and monthly instructional activities in alignment with Head Start Program Performance Standards and additional program requirements, taking into consideration the needs and abilities of the children.

  • Provide instructional support to children engaged in various classroom activities.

  • Assist in adapting and implementing behavior plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to meet the goals and objectives of each child receiving consultation or special education services.

  • Attend IEP and behavior plan meetings, contributing relevant and accurate information to support individual child progress.

  • Conduct child toileting and other hygiene-related tasks as necessary.

  • Participate in home visits as needed.

  • Always utilize developmentally appropriate activities, best practices, and positive discipline methods.

  • Supervise children at all times, ensuring their safety and well-being.

  • Maintain teacher-to-child ratios at all times in compliance with program standards.

  • Collaborate with staff to implement policies, promote program goals and activities, and encourage parental involvement in the classroom and program.

  • Maintain open and effective communication with parents, providing updates on daily activities and any notable developments.

  • Work with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and supportive teaching environment.

  • Support cultural responsiveness efforts by understanding differences, recognizing biases, and fostering a productive educational setting that values diversity.

  • Be available for short-notice assignments and flexible in working across different preschool classrooms and centers.

  • Demonstrate adaptability to various teaching styles, classroom routines, and curriculum materials.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities and meetings to foster continuous improvement.

  • Ensure accuracy in documentation and record-keeping processes.

  • Assist in maintaining a healthy, safe, and clean classroom environment.

  • Support family-style mealtime routines, fostering social/emotional and self-help skill development.

  • Ensure classroom and outdoor equipment is in good working condition and used/maintained properly.

  • Adhere to children's medical and nutritional restrictions.

  • Accept temporary work assignments within Adams County when regularly scheduled personnel are unavailable, demonstrating flexibility with center or role assignments.

  • Regularly check and respond to communication channels, such as email, curriculum platforms, and phone calls, in a timely manner.

  • Always maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality, abiding by the program's employee standards of conduct.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

More Qualifications for Success

Experience:

  • Six (6) months of experience working with preschool-age children.

Education and Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Early Childhood Education Training (ECETEC) certification or willingness to complete the ECETEC qualification within a specified timeframe.

License or Certificate:

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License and proof of vehicle insurance.

  • Motor vehicle record check required.

  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications.

  • Ability to obtain a medication administration certificate.

Background Check:

  • Must pass multiple criminal background and Central Registry checks, including:

  • State criminal background check.

  • National sex offender registry check.

  • Fingerprint check.

  • Motor vehicle background check.

  • Five-year state-based residence background check.

  • CBI/FBI background checks.

  • TRAILS check.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Completion of a physical examination and TB test upon hire.

  • Physical ability to:

  • Sit, stand, walk, run, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and climb.

  • Lift up to 45 pounds.

  • Potential exposure to childhood diseases.

Ability to obtain, maintain, and ensure continued access to State and County systems in strict compliance with all applicable county and state regulations, policies, and user agreements.

Employees who work within the parameters below are eligible to participate in the 457b deferred compensation plan:

  • Duration - 3 months or less

  • Weekly Hours - Any

  • Break in Service Requirement - 13 weeks

  • Lactation friendly certified workplace

    OR

  • Duration - Up to 12 months

  • Weekly Hours - 29 or less hours

  • Break in Service Requirement - 13 weeks

Employees who work within the parameters below are eligible to participate in the the medical plan for the employee and child(ren) only as well as the 457b deferred compensation plan:

  • Duration - At least 3 months and up to 12 months

  • Weekly Hours - 30 or more

  • Break in Service Requirement - 13 weeks
