McLaren Engineers Specialist, Metallurgical Quality Engineering in Livonia, Michigan

REQUIRED:  Specialist, Metallurgical Quality Engineering for McLaren Performance Technologies Inc. (Livonia, MI location) who will play an integral part in the corporation's metallurgy laboratory by overseeing the activities including providing guidance to Lab Technicians and actively participating in the lab activities. Duties will include, but are not limited to, reviewing data and creating reports based on analysis, which may include samples from incoming materials / components, prototype parts, weldments, failure analysis, warranty returns etc.; providing input to engineering teams during the design and testing phase of new products; working with product engineering to assist with metallurgical specifications for drawings as well as support development for metallurgical processes such as welding, heat treating, coating, casting etc.; conducting destructive and Non-Destructive testing while preparing metallurgical samples; performing Hardness measurements (Rockwell, Vickers, Brinell) while evaluating material microstructures before and after heat treatment; reporting Failure Analysis and inspecting Magnetic Particles; assisting in DFMEA/PFEMA activities; supporting design engineering on the development of new products and materials; conducting research and preparing proposals of materials / processes; ensuring maintenance of Lab Equipment and proposals for new equipment needs; establishing and maintaining lab processes; maintaining and updating laboratory scopes; presenting results to Suppliers, Customers, or Linamar staff; maintaining effective communication with managers, supervisors, engineering, and production employees; and assisting in the training of employees as it relates to metallurgy, equipment usage, techniques etc.

Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Materials Engineering/Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry or equivalent scientific field and at least 3 years of experience with Linamar's automotive components failure analysis as well as metallurgical quality operations including hands on heat treatment and welding, metallurgical sample preparation, hardness measurement and analysis of microstructures. Must also have at least 3 years experience in maintaining 5S in metallurgical lab including DFMEA/PFEMA activities, supporting design engineering on the development of new products and materials and Linamar's research and proposals of materials/processes.
