Job Title: Cutter Operator

Job Description

The Cutter Operator is responsible for setting up, adjusting, monitoring, and running die cutting presses and overseeing the stripping of the die cut parts. The operator is also responsible for detecting cutting defects and informing the manager of possible problems. The role involves making liquid packaging such as school milk cartons, rat traps, tobacco cartons, and food product cartons.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for tooling and blanker setup and die cut machine operations, while adhering to controlled documentation and procedures.

  • Ensure the product meets the quality, safety, and legality requirements of its customer.

  • Troubleshoot and repair machine-related problems, adjusting equipment to improve or maintain quality and alerting the maintenance department when necessary.

  • Maintain production floor and workspace cleanliness and observe all safety and quality practices.

Essential Skills

  • Self-motivated and able to operate with minimal supervision, especially on the 3rd shift.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Basic math ability including algebra and geometry.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior assembly or machine operation experience is helpful but not required.

  • Able to lift/push/move up to 75lbs.

  • Able to stand/walk/move for up to 8 hours.

Work Environment

HSM is a fourth-generation, Native American family-owned company with 72 years of niche manufacturing experience. The company specializes in high-quality, environmentally responsible paperboard packaging and is the only manufacturer of milk cartons in New York State. The 3rd shift runs from Sunday to Thursday, 10pm to 6am, with training on the 1st shift (6am to 2pm) for the first 2-3 weeks. Overtime is built into the schedule, roughly 8-12 hours per week. The facility is sterile, temperature-controlled, and welcoming, with most of the team having been there for over 7 years. PPE such as hair nets, beard nets, gloves, and hearing protection are provided.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Liverpool, New York.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00
