Job Overview

As the Hydraulic Engineering Supervisor for Drills, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the development of cutting-edge underground hard rock mining equipment. You will be responsible for the design of hydraulic systems, as well as coaching, mentoring, and supervising a talented team of engineers. Your expertise will be crucial in prioritizing, scheduling, and delegating work assignments, while directly overseeing the design of hydraulic systems to meet our high standards of quality, cost-efficiency, and innovation.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Create full hydraulic schematics for mining mobile equipment and participate in testing prototypes.

  • Coach and mentor team members to ensure design objectives are met and work with project management and engineering manager to ensure project work quality, timelines, budget are being maintained as required.

  • Work with vendors to optimize hydraulic component selection in order to achieve the cost target and machine performance.

  • Design hydraulic systems and schematics for mining machinery with consideration for systems integration with powertrain, electrical and controls. This requires a detailed understanding of customer requirements, and requirements for maintenance and repair access.

  • Design and layout complete machine hydraulic, air, water and HVAC systems. Create detail drawings of component locations and mounting. Work with the supply chain team, vendors and manufacturing to provide the specifications for production launch.

  • Focus on system optimization to obtain required performance of selected components and systems based on power availability while achieving lowest possible cost.

  • Providing continuous support to manufacturing team during the assembly phase of capital equipment builds.

  • Provide technical support to global factory support department to improve products or resolve design issues and commissioning issues (trouble shooting)

  • Manage direct report performance by estimating targets, actions to meet targets and methods of measurement towards target achievement.

  • Manage direct report scheduling, attendance and project availability as it relates to travel, remote and onsite work.

  • Specify, plan, coordinate, execute and document hydraulic, air, water and HVAC systems performance testing on prototype units to validate required function, performance and efficiency of systems.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent with applicable experience and training in hydraulic systems and design.

  • 5 to 10 years of experience with mobile equipment hydraulic systems design and integration including simulation, validation and troubleshooting;

  • Experience working with vendors and selecting hydraulic components and systems for underground heavy mobile equipment;

  • Experience with underground heavy mobile equipment application in underground mines considered an asset.

  • Experience with phased new product development projects;

  • Valid Driver's License and Passport required with ability to travel internationally;

  • Ability to work underground;

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude to provide troubleshooting support to manufacturing operations and aftermarket field teams.

  • General understanding of hydraulic system interdependencies in mobile equipment including electrical, powertrain, pneumatics.

  • Familiar with ISO, ANSI and CSA and other global safety regulations required in the design of products;

  • Understanding of ECNs, ECRs, NCRs, RAs, DFMEA and PFMEA;

  • Experience with AutoCAD and SolidWorks;

  • Strong written, and verbal English communication skills.

  • Must be innovative, adaptable, and flexible.

  • Strong problem-solving skills
