City of Littleton Fleet Services Install Technician in Littleton, Colorado

The City of Littleton has an exciting new job opportunity for a Fleet Services Install Technician to join the Fleet Services team!

Fleet Services Install Technicians perform upfitting and decommissioning on a wide variety of city operated vehicles and equipment. Work includes installation and maintenance of vehicle equipment such as LED Lighting, sirens, radios, push bumpers, partitions, weapons mounts and other equipment on passenger cars, light trucks, heavy trucks, off-road equipment, police vehicles and other equipment.

Starting pay range $29.84 - $32.98 per hour:

  • Starting pay for candidates with CDL is $31.41 - $32.98 per hour.

  • Starting pay for candidates with no CDL is $29.84 per hour.

  • Employees who obtain their CDL during course of employment with the city are eligible for a pay increase.

This full-time position is non-exempt per FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation.

Work Schedule: This full-time position will work 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday. This position may be required to respond to emergency calls for vehicle or equipment repair or assistance that may occur outside the assigned work schedule. Compensation for overtime pay is in accordance with city procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installs and repairs LED Lighting, sirens, radios, push bumpers, partitions, weapons mounts, miscellaneous equipment, and general accessories.

  • Documents parts used for vehicle upfit and repair, creates records and reports related to upfitting activities.

  • Maintains work area, tools, and equipment in a clean and safe condition; responsible for reporting unsafe acts or conditions to supervisor.

  • Reviews daily work assignments and reports daily work progress to supervisor and fleet manager.

  • Responds, as necessary, to emergency calls to make temporary or permanent repairs or adjustments to city vehicles and equipment.

  • Delivers work products and services within the assigned full-time work schedule.

  • Performs janitorial tasks, as required, to maintain the cleanliness of fleet maintenance area.

  • Performs welding or machine work necessary to fabricate parts or other components to complete repairs on assigned vehicles and equipment.

  • Picks up and delivers vehicles, parts, and equipment as required.

  • Performs other similar assignments and projects as required.

  • May serve as an Emergency Worker.

  • Technicians may be called for emergency repairs 24-7.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; and

  • Two (2) years of work experience in maintaining and repairing automobiles, heavy trucks including diesel engines and air brake systems, and a variety of equipment;OR

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.

  • Must acquire a minimum of (4) ASE Certifications within 6 months of employment.

  • Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) or Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Certification within 12 months of employment.

  • Possess a complete tool set to preform daily job functions. Specialty tool will be discussed with management as warranted.

  • Valid Class “B”’ Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake required or obtain within 6 months of employment.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, DOT drug screen and DOT physical.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certificate from an automotive technical institute or community college automotive degree

  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing police or emergency vehicles

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications

  • Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) factory training or certifications

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency with an FMIS (Fleet Management Information System)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Mechanical and basic mathematical aptitude, understanding and analytic ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair passenger automobiles, gasoline and diesel trucks, police vehicles and equipment; and operate these vehicles and equipment in order to perform essential job functions.

  • Basic knowledge of automotive 12-volt systems including electrical diagrams.

  • Ability to attend work-related training sessions to improve skill levels that may occasionally require class attendance during evening hours or on weekends.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and interactions with supervisors, other city employees, vendors, and the public through oral and written communications; observes and follows established city and department policies, procedures, rules; orders, and instructions from the supervisor in the daily conduct of the job.

  • Strong analytical and technical skills with ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair vehicles and equipment.

  • Strong computer skills including standard Microsoft Office applications and Emergency Vehicle Programing.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, providing assistance, expertise, and sharing information with others, working toward solutions.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to quickly changing priorities; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a calm, organized manner.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to create and update operation and maintenance records, and related documents to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Knowledge of Faster Asset or similar Fleet Management program.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Physical requirements include the performance of heavy work consisting of physically demanding tasks that include but are not limited to frequently lifting and carrying tools and toolboxes weighing up to 50 pounds with or without assistance; occasionally pushing and pulling diagnostic machines and toolboxes weighing up to 100 pounds with or without assistance.

  • Work is performed indoors in a vehicle maintenance (shop) environment. Minimal outdoor work includes the operation of a variety of city vehicles and equipment and providing emergency roadside repair or vehicle retrieval. This work includes exposure to extreme cold, with or without temperature changes; extreme heat with or without temperature changes; wet and/or humid weather conditions, snow, ice, hail, and rain.

  • Technician responsibilities include control of exposures to chemical and biological hazards and disposal of hazardous chemicals. Ventilation control, hearing conservation and heat and cold stress evaluation.

MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

A variety of mechanics hand and power tools and mechanical equipment; tire-changing equipment; vehicle lifts and hoists; arbor press; air compressors and air tools; cutting and welding equipment; a variety of electronic and mechanical testing equipment; laptop computer; two-way radios and telephones.
