Guidehouse Scientific Software Engineer in Little Rock, Arkansas

What you will do:

  • Maintain and enhance programs that create images for the various numerical models run on the NOAA WCOSS system. This includes, maintaining the existing image process, possible improvements, bugs reported by end-users and most importantly making changes in conjunction with model upgrades

  • Design, develop and test your software to adhere to the specified requirements

  • Run performance benchmarking tests as needed

  • Refactor and optimize existing code

  • Document code so other developers can understand and contribute to it

  • Review colleagues' code

  • Meet with product owners, designers, developers and project staff for progress updates

  • Contribute to implementing an agile product development environment

  • Effectively communicate technical information and work status accurately and reliably to project leads and managers

What you will need:

  • BS /BS Degree

  • 6-8 years of experience. Additional 4 years of experience can be substituted for degree.

  • 6+ years experience in Meteorology visualization packages such as GEMPAK and Python

  • 6+ years Linux/Unix scripting experience including BASH, Perl and Python

  • 6+ years experience with Scientific Python coding

  • Basic knowledge of Fortran

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • U.S. Citizen or Green card is required for the position

  • Must successfully pass a Federal Background Investigation

Would would be nice to have:

  • Experience working with NetCDF, HDF5, or GRIB datasets

  • Experience with scientific data dissemination such as LDM

  • Experience with Meteorology visualization packages like - GrADS/NCL/MetPy

  • Experience with numerical modeling principles

  • Experience with PHP and/ or Java

  • Experience with change management and version control systems, such as Git

  • Experience working with JIRA and Confluence

  • Degree in Meteorology

The annual salary range for this position is $93,800.00-$140,700.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
