What You’ll Do

The REMPREX Senior Accountant in this tax-specific role will focus on the preparation and filing of taxes for multiple jurisdictions, including Canada. The Senior Accountant will manage tax filing deadlines, communicate with tax authorities, ensure timely resolution of tax matters, and support the tax-related needs of the organization. The ideal candidate will have strong tax knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Tax Filing & Compliance:

  • Prepare and file sales and use tax, franchise, and occupational taxes across multiple U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions.

  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, deadlines, and reporting requirements for all relevant jurisdictions.

  • Coordinate and manage multiple tax filing deadlines to ensure timely and accurate submissions.

  • Tax Authorities Communication & Resolution:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for communication with federal, state, and local tax authorities regarding tax-related matters, including notices, inquiries, and audits.

  • Resolve any discrepancies or issues raised by tax authorities through email and phone correspondence.

  • Vendor & Internal Coordination:

  • Work closely with our tax automation vendor, Avalara, to ensure accurate and timely sales tax calculations and filings.

  • Collaborate with the Accounts Payable (AP) and Cash Management departments to coordinate tax payments, ensuring timely and accurate transactions.

  • Audit Support:

  • Support the Sales Tax Audit process by gathering necessary documentation and communicating with taxing authorities to resolve audit issues.

  • Payroll Tax Compliance:

  • Coordinate with the Payroll Department to ensure timely resolution of payroll tax notices, including addressing discrepancies and facilitating communication with tax authorities.

  • Tax Research & Analysis:

  • Stay current on changes to tax regulations in multiple jurisdictions and evaluate their potential impact on the company’s tax obligations.

  • Provide recommendations for process improvements and best practices related to tax compliance and reporting.

  • Other Duties as Assigned:

  • Assist with other accounting and finance duties as needed, including journal entries, reconciliations and other month-end close processes.

What You’ll Need

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, with a focus on tax compliance and tax filing responsibilities

  • Extensive experience with sales and use taxes, franchise taxes, and payroll tax matters, including knowledge of U.S. and Canadian tax jurisdictions (GST, HST, QST, PST)

  • Familiarity with tax automation software

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with tax authorities and internal teams

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to resolve complex tax issues

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and accounting software.

Preferred:

  • CPA designation

  • Previous experience using Avalara

  • Previous experience using NetSuite

This role is based out of our corporate headquarters in Lisle, Illinois and offers a hybrid work schedule.
