Camping World Indirect Tax Manager in Lincolnshire, Illinois

The Indirect Tax Manager is a member of the corporate tax team and contributes to the company’s success through effective management of indirect tax function. As the Indirect Tax Manager, you will be responsible for indirect tax compliance and managing the related audits including sales and use, business personal property tax, tax analysis and mitigation as well as systems improvements and integration. This position works closely with finance and other cross-functional teams and will serve as the go-to person for indirect tax questions from the field. This role leads the Senior Tax Accountant to operate under the direction of the Tax Director. The position partners with multiple cross-functional leaders, external tax agencies, various regulatory authorities, third party consultants, and multiple professional entities.

What You'll Do:

Oversee the sales and use tax compliance functions, including:

  • Timely transmittal of accurately prepared monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual sales and use tax returns to jurisdictions.

  • Prepare monthly cash requests, journal entries, and balance sheet account reconciliation.

  • Monitor laws, regulations, decisions in sales/use tax area for our industry and provide guidance and direction based on tax laws to other departments.

  • Assist the invoicing functions to ensure taxes are being applied appropriately, documentation is centrally maintained and available, exemption certificates are provided when warranted, all with a sense of urgency and responsiveness.

  • Develop and maintain taxability matrices, updating regularly for tax rate and law changes, changes in products, etc.

  • Coordinate across functional and process teams to integrate new business products into proper compliance including state registrations and set up of applicable sales tax engines.

  • General system maintenance support (Vertex, Avalara, etc.)

​Oversee the business personal property tax compliance function, including:

  • Manage property tax compliance and develop strategies to minimize liabilities.

  • Responsible for preparation of the property tax renditions to ensure accuracy and timely filing.

  • Timely transmittal of property tax payments.

  • Prepare monthly cash requests, journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Manage property tax rendition and payment tax calendar.

​Oversee other indirect tax compliance responsibilities, including:

  • Unclaimed property reporting and asset recovery

  • Annual Reports

  • 1099 Preparation

  • Credits and incentives

What You'll Need to Have for the Role:

  • Minimum 8 years of multi-state sales and use tax experience in a public accounting firm or an equivalent medium/large corporate tax department. (Ideally candidate will have dealership experience)

  • Certified Public Accountant

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Accounting or a related field.

  • Experience with sales/use tax software and basic understanding of business applications and technology systems in support of operational processes

  • Must be proactive, self-reliant and the ability to prioritize multiple projects

  • Understanding of state sales and use tax laws.

  • Understanding of personal property tax law.

  • General understanding of income/franchise tax.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and internal control requirements.

Required Skills:

  • Strong experience in a similar role, currently operating at a manager level within a Tax Reporting function in commerce or an accountancy firm, ideally with dealership experience.

  • High-level experience coordinating a multi-state indirect tax compliance function.

  • Proven and effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Flexible, adaptable, and innovative. Works with complex issues.

  • A high degree of accuracy, with a process improvement focus.

  • Understand product taxability, tax resale/ exemption certificate and license rules by jurisdiction and provide tax advice, guidance and training to internal stakeholders

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Skilled in the use of excel including V-look up and advance pivot tables

Pay Range:

$108,360.00-$162,540.00 Annual
