Job Summary: This position is for a Level 2 Design Engineering Technician. The Design Engineering Technician is responsible for creating detailed product and tool/fixture drawings to support the core business. They will create SolidWorks models and assemblies as well as prepare detailed drawings, and BOM's in a manner that will ensure adherence to established specifications and standards. They will use Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing to insure proper fit and function. Drawings will be created from sketches, notes, self-knowledge or direct instruction. They will also be required to physically assemble, troubleshoot, and test new tooling and designs.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain product drawings

  • Develop tool designs that minimize fabrication costs, comply with OSHA safety requirements, and optimize ergonomics and operator productivity

  • Document and create facility layout prints for existing and future infrastructure

  • Design parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, following the direction of an engineer

  • Create detailed part and assembly drawings that are professional, accurate and in accordance with company engineering standards

  • Create and revise documents following Hexagon Agility’s change management system

  • Performing tooling design reviews

  • Manage CAD within the Product Data Management

  • Keep company current in all CAD concepts, practices, and improvements and provide support for co-workers in both basic and advanced CAD operations

  • Apply judgment, evaluating for best approach, and make decisions with respect to drawings and the interpretation thereof

  • Work in conjunction with process design and manufacturing personnel to develop and implement tooling

  • Research and recommend procurement from outside vendors when required

  • Support various company efforts when needed

  • Able to fulfill roles and responsibilities with limited supervision

Education and Preferrable Experience

  • Associate degree in Computer Aided Design or similar discipline

  • Two to five years of relevant work experience

  • Experience with:

  • Tool design

  • Operating machining equipment

  • Using and interpreting measuring equipment

  • Performing structural analysis

  • Able to find solutions by using a variety of resources including online research and contact with suppliers and internal personnel

  • Treats others with equity and respect regardless of differences

  • Thorough knowledge of Computer Aided Design

  • Understanding of:

  • Common machining and tool design practices

  • SolidWorks

  • Standard drafting practices (e.g. GD&T, ASME Y14.5)

  • A variety of material standards and properties

  • AutoCAD

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk eight hours per day and carry up to 20 pounds

  • Occasional travel, both domestic and international
