Basic Job Functions:

Universal Industrial Gases, Inc. (UIG) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nucor and a wellestablished, globalengineer, constructor, supplier and operator of air separation plants and related equipment and services, based in Bethlehem, PA.UIG owns and operates production plants across the USA which supply both Nucor steel sites and thirdparty clients 24/7 withtonnage quantities of oxygen, nitrogen, and argon as well as exporting liquid cryogenic products by road tanker.UIG is currently seeking an Air Separation Plant Technical manager for our new Nucor/Lexington NC VSA (vacuum swing absorber) facility in Lexington NC and our Shelby NC air separation plant inShelby NC. Additionally, there will be a need to travel occasionally to our UIG VSA site in Kingman AZ.

This is a challenging and rewarding position that requires an employee to be proficient in air separation plant technology and haveknowledge / aptitude in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process operation controls and equipment. The technicalmanager must be selfmotivated and demonstrate initiative in resolving issues, planning, completing required maintenance, andmanaging site operations. The technical manager must be on call and able to respond as needed. Occasionally, overnight travel willbe required for training and/or plant support activities.

Primary Responsibilities:1. Maintain all safety, quality, and compliance activities at each plant location.2. Perform routine maintenance on process equipment.3. Perform routine calibrations on a variety of process equipment including centrifugal, screw, and reciprocating compressors,gas analyzers, instruments/transmitters, electrical/PLC equipment, and pneumatic control valves.4. Manage own time to accomplish operations and maintenance tasks for assigned plants, which includes troubleshooting,diagnosing, and solving plant problems.5. Coordinate contractors and resources, both internal and external to UIG, to support activities, audits, and all administrativerequirements for the plant.6. Maintain or improve plant production and efficiency.7. Occasionally assists or directs the training and development of new employees.8. Be the key contact for continuing communication with customers to coordinate plant production and maintenanceactivities.9. 24hour oncall responsibility.10. Member of quality control unit (QCU)

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High School Degree required.2. 5 years Industrial gas experience operating and/or maintaining an industrial VSA and/or ASU.3. Experience with Mechanical and Electrical Instrumentation Candidate should understand electrical principals in practicalsituations involving the operation and repair of complex electrical devices typically found on air separation plants andshould possess good skills in mechanical system maintenance including implementation and ongoing review ofmaintenance programs and asset management tools.4. Lives within the Charlotte metro area within reasonable driving distance to Lexington NC and Shelby NC.5. Has no issue with occasional flights to Kingman AZ area.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree in a technical field preferred

• Experience in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment necessary for repairing and replacing mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment.

• Experience in standard automation software, control system programming, and human machine interface (HMI).

• Experience working independently to troubleshoot, diagnose & solve issues with process and plant equipment; and to develop and rapidly implement corrective actions.

• Experience training teammates on plant operations, quality control procedures and the proper techniques of instrument calibration and maintenance.

• Experience in water treatment technology and the principles of industrial refrigeration systems.
