Job Summary
The Service and Community Engagement (SCE) Student Internship positions are designed to provide students with a dynamic experience intended to highlight the functions of service and community engagement work both on and off campus.

The SCE Programmer Internship position will develop and facilitate co-curricular service events and educational programs that meet real and identified community needs throughout the academic year. SCE Programmers will be responsible for coordinating one to two recurring
community service events per month, as well as one to two community engagement events per month. Some of these have already become established partnerships, while others may be created throughout the academic year.

Oversee partnership(s) with a local community-based organization(s) to facilitate bi-weekly recurring service projects.
  • Plan and facilitate education and reflection for community service events.
  • Manage event registration and track volunteer hours via GivePulse.
  • Maintain professional communication with community based organizations.
  • Oversee the development of at least one community engagement event per month.
  • Manage event registration and attendance via BBNvoveld.

GENERAL FOR SCE INTERN: In addition to the above responsibilities, SCE Interns will meet regularly with an Assistant Director for Service and Community Engagement to learn about community partner relations, plan informational workshops and events for UK students,
discuss office management, policies and procedures, and identify personal/professional goals. Attendance at multiple, regular bi-weekly, and monthly meetings will also be required. When applying for these positions, please know that we will require both evening and weekend work shifts in addition to typical business hour shifts. Also know
that we will fully prioritize your academic schedule, as well as consider your other personal, weekly obligations. This job is meant to be a meaningful compliment to your academic journey here at UK.

Additional responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in providing customer service in the Center for Student Involvement (A252 and A255 in the Gatton Student Center).
  • Teach students how to use GivePulse in order to find volunteer opportunities and track their completed service hours
  • SCE Interns will work an average of 12 hours per week, including required nights and weekends. Those hours will include:
    • Office Hours in the Service and Community Engagement suite in the Gatton Student Center
    • Participating in events held by the office in the role of site/reflection leader, and assisting with other programs/events put on by the office, such as volunteer fairs or tabling initiatives.
    • Meeting with the Assistant Director for Service and Community Engagement
    • Meeting with other relevant campus and non-campus partners

  • Other duties as assigned
