The starting rate for this position is $22.00/Hour

Summary

The Unit Secretary/ED Tech is an essential member of the Patient Care Team providing clerical support, and direct, patient care, if needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.

  • Maintains patient charts consistent with organizational policies.

  • Always maintains patient confidentiality.

  • Answers the telephone courteously and professionally and redirects as appropriate.

  • Accurately transcribes and processes physicians’ orders.

  • Performs typing functions (memos, meeting minutes, quality improvement reports, data entry, etc.).

  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies, and par levels and fills out purchase orders.

  • Tabulates statistics for end-of-month reporting.

  • Accurately performs scheduling and coordination of patient/resident activities.

  • Faxes, copies, and files documents as requested and required.

  • Obtains room assignments, secures necessary signatures, and secures patient valuables.

  • Assists with staff scheduling, set up, and cleaning of rooms.

  • Provides transport. Maintains bulletin boards/postings.

  • Promptly prepares and releases authorized patient records in accordance with laws and regulations that protect patient confidentiality.

  • Arrives and registers patients who are brought in via ambulance.

  • Interview patients, relatives, or their representatives to secure personal, financial, and insurance data. Gathers correct demographic info via face-to-face meeting or telephone interview.

  • Tactfully gathers patient financial information regarding the ability to pay for services.

  • Performs vital signs, EKG’s, collects specimens, applies hot/cold compresses, distributes water/food, and applies immobilizers, splints, slings, and crutches.

  • Assists in patient transport and prep for admission and discharges.

  • Answers call lights and communicates effectively with patients, families, peers, and others.

  • Assists in completing daily tasks which include:

  • Stocking rooms and IV carts

  • Stocking linen and blanket warmer

  • Checking O2 tanks, restraints, sharps containers, wall suction, sterile supplies and PPE supplies

  • Washing stretchers

  • Emptying trash and dirty linen

  • Preparation of supply list for Charge Nurse

  • Performs financial counseling when required and offers assistance to patients relating to long-term and short-term payment arrangements as required by the department policy.

  • Counsel patients relating to Charity Care and/or Maine Care.

  • Behavioral Depts.- Participates in the preparation and delivery of patient info to the courts.

  • Accurately prepares death certificates according to policy and procedure.

  • Maintains all required competencies and completes annual compliance courses on time.

  • Other duties as consistent with this role.

    Job Requirements

    Job Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong computer skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • The ability to speak, read, write, and understand written instructions in English is required.

  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training preferred or obtained within 6 months of hire

    Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • State of Maine CNA

  • Previous Medical Office experience preferred.

  • Basic Life Support certificate- required.
