Central Maine Medical Center Senior Security Officer, Full-Time, Evenings in Lewiston, Maine

Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Senior Security Officer to join our team!

This is a full-time, 40-hours, benefits eligible position.

Starting pay is $20.50 plus $1.25 shift differential.

The Senior Security Officer provides protection for all persons and property safety within the organization and its environment. Provides customer service and ensures orderly parking. Responds to security needs of hospital personnel quickly and effectively. Assists the Supervisory Team with officer training, training programs and reviewing and maintaining policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Must have completed the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety basic security/safety course and certification programs.

  • Must possess a current, active Maine Driver’s License with no court-imposed restrictions.

  • Must be certified at the Basic and Supervisor’s levels by the International Association for Hospital Security and Safety prior to or immediately after accepting the position. Must be certified at Safety level within 6 months of accepting the position.

  • This CMHC position must meet the criteria for evaluating vehicle operator suitability. It has been determined that this position requires either the operation of a system or leased vehicle or the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes on a regular basis as an integral part of the job.

  • Other:

  • Must clear security checks:

  • No convictions or offenses that reflect behavior unsuited for security.

  • No convictions for violations of ME traffic laws that reflect abuse of intoxicating or impairing substances, or regard for public safety or general disregard for public law. (e.g. assault, theft)

  • Record checks include:

  • ME State Police Criminal History Files

  • Department of Motor Vehicles Files

  • Other Public Records, as needed.

    Essential Duties:

  • Patrols Medical Center complex to provide a visible deterrence to preventing criminal and prohibited activity (fire, accidents). Ensures safety and unauthorized entry.

  • At the beginning of an assigned shift, the security officer will be in uniform and prepared for duty.

  • Each officer will be responsible to obtain an update on activities of importance to department operations. This includes discussions with someone from the previous shift, and reading and signing the brief, operations and daily activities logs.

  • Officers will sign on with the dispatcher.

  • Officers will report to the assigned area to relieve the previous shift at that location (e.g.: parking lot, emergency, front desk, etc.).

  • All shift activities will be properly and accurately recorded on the security log.

  • Responds in a timely manner and report all incidents occurring on hospital property and submit an incident report after the investigation to the director by end of shift.

  • Assures an orderly, safe, efficient, access and parking for patients, visitors, and employees.

  • Officers assigned to outside areas will patrol all parking locations and will report, on the proper written violation form, for non-compliance with hospital standing orders regarding parking.

  • Reports all safety concerns on the property outside including weather conditions that might impact parking or safe travel.

  • Assists with patient lifting/moving as requested.

  • Responds to requests for lifting assistance in a timely manner.

  • Uses appropriate body mechanics and lifting techniques and will not attempt any patient lift unless all safety precautions (including having adequate help) are in place.

  • Provides escort service, courier and shuttle/storm transports for the organization

  • Escorts customers as needed.

  • Operates CMMC vehicles in a safe and efficient manner during courier and shuttle/storm transports

  • Assists the Supervisory Team with officer training, training programs and reviewing and maintaining policies and procedures.

  • Provides one-on-one officer training as needed for review or to complete officer competencies.

  • Works with all officers to complete Safety Rep training and to maintain Safety Rep status.

  • Works with all officers to achieve International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety basic & safety certifications levels.

  • Reviews and provides input to maintain current and establish new policies and procedures.

  • Complies and enforces all organizational policies and procedures.

  • Assumes confidentiality with all hospital matters, at all times.

  • Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.

  • Maintains a pleasant and helpful demeanor, and presents a professional appearance toward all internal and external customers at all times.

  • Consistently initiates interaction to provide assistance to individuals who may not be direct customers of the employee (i.e. asks patients who appear to be lost if they need assistance in finding their way).

  • Takes appropriate action to recover from a service difficulty, ensuring that the necessary action is taken to affect a resolution to the customer’s problem.

  • Conducts all work activities with respect for coworkers, including the maintenance of a pleasant and professional environment, fostering calmness during stressful situations.

  • Interacts with supervisory personnel in a professional, supportive and courteous manner, venting emotions appropriate to time and place.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to service by consistent attendance and punctuality, scheduling absences according to departmental requirements, and incurring unplanned absences only when unavoidable circumstances exist.
