Lapp Insulators Mechanical Lab Technician in LeRoy, New York

Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Mechanical Technician is to perform various inspections and tests associated with the Mechanical Laboratory in accordance with appropriate industry standards and company procedures. Tests conducted include, but are not limited to the following: cantilever, equal bending moment, tensile, torsion, compression, combined mechanical and electrical, impact, thermal shock, dye penetration, spring constant and dielectric withstand. Maintain organized, clean and safe work area. Enter data into computer. The candidate must be a self-starter who will work under the direction of the Director of Engineering & Quality.

Duties and responsibilities for the Mechanical Lab Tech:

Maintain organized, clean and safe work environment. Use various hand tools and connection fittings to properly affix items into test equipment. Perform tests in accordance with appropriate industry standards and company procedures. Perform specialized tests under the direction of Product Design Engineers. Prioritize testing order based on optimal productivity and input from several sources. Collect information and enter into spreadsheets and databases for review and storage. Ensure availability of proper supplies and tools. Ensure calibration status of all equipment. Initiate work or purchase orders for new, repaired or modified tools, supplies and/or equipment. Operate motorized equipment for the safe movement of test equipment and materials. Notify appropriate personnel when inspection and test results indicate a potential problem. Identify, segregate and assist in the disposition of non-conforming product. Develop and maintain procedures and work instructions in conjunction with supervision. Other duties as directed by supervisor. Qualifications for the Mechanical Lab Tech:

Must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders and work from a squatting position. Honest and trustworthy. Able to work with a variety of hand and power tools. Writing skills for; project reports, work instructions, policies and procedures. Computer skills for statistical analysis, reports, and record keeping. Associates degree in quality, process or related field. High school diploma is acceptable depending on experience. Five (5) to ten (10) years experience in a manufacturing environment
