Position: Associate Corporate Attorney

Associate Corporate Attorney

Come join us! We are looking to add a second attorney to help grow our Risk Management Department and support our dynamic organization. This position will support the Corporate Attorney in various ways. Primary responsibilities include reviewing contracts for professional services and construction within the A/E/C/T industry. This position will also work side-by-side with Project Managers, Directors, Principals and Affiliate Presidents throughout the organization on all matters impacting the businesses.

Responsibilities:

  • Support and report to Corporate Attorney.
  • Serve as a legal advisor to management in contract review for engineering, architecture and construction projects, corporate documents, and some technology agreements.
  • Provide drafting, review and negotiation of a wide variety of contracts such as DOT contracts, municipal contracts, service agreements, procurement or purchase agreements, mergers and acquisitions, corporate resolutions, staffing agreements or human resources services agreements.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Attorney and outside counsel and work alongside Corporate Attorney acting as intermediaries for dispute resolution.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate non-disclosure or other agreements for the protection of confidential, proprietary, and sensitive information.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Attorney and outside counsel in the drafting of intellectual property and technology related agreements.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Attorney and outside counsel for all licenses, patents, and trademarks.
  • Work with leadership on the organizations compliance efforts related to licensure and registrations.
  • Review and negotiate lease agreements.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Attorney, outside counsel, and leadership on due diligence related to mergers and acquisitions.
  • Work alongside Corporate Attorney to advise leadership with respect to all forms of bonds and insurance for all companies.
  • Coordinate with Corporate Attorney, HR, and outside counsel for HR policy review and employee related issues.
  • Oversight of our independent contractor agreements.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree and Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to Kansas recognized bar (or ability to be admitted).
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in contracts, torts, real property (litigation experience preferred).
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal issues as well as listen to and understand communications with numerous subject matter experts.
  • Proven effective negotiation skills.
  • Experience in the A/E/C industry required.
  • Experience in the technology industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, including employment law preferred.
  • Desire to work in a collaborative team environment and provide coaching and mentoring to staff about legal topics.

Travel: Although rare, some overnight travel may be necessary for this position in support of project requirements. Some occasional local day travel may be required.
