Argonne National Laboratory Research Library Manager in Lemont, Illinois

The Research Library Manager supports the mission of the Laboratory by leading an enterprise-wide scientific literature reference program; curating a best-in-class collection of scientific and technical information resources; and ensuring the digital and physical spaces of the Research Library anticipate the needs of Argonne researchers and engineers.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Leads and provides clear direction to the Research Library team.

  • Inspires staff to identify opportunities for engagement across the Laboratory, implement strategic initiatives, and pursue professional development opportunities that expand the reach and capabilities of the Research Library.

  • Promotes the collaborative, inclusive, and curious organizational culture of the Research Library.

Strategic Direction

  • Builds strategic collaborations with scientists, engineers, and Laboratory leadership, integratingResearch Library services and platforms into all phases of the research lifecycle.

  • Leads the transformation of the Research Library’s physical and digital spaces by anticipating and adapting to the changing needs of on-site and remote users.

  • Develops the Research Library’s customer service model, policies, and procedures.

Reference Excellence

  • Plans, coordinates, and delivers scientific reference services and in-depth literature research programs aligned with the Research Library’s customer service model.

  • Facilitates integration of library tools and resources with Laboratory software platforms, text and data mining services, and generative AI tools.

  • Responds, with the Research Library team, to in-depth scientific and technical research and reference questions from Laboratory stakeholders.

Collection Development

  • Directs the development and curation of the Research Library’s collection of scientific and technical reference material.

  • Analyzes scientific journal and electronic content usage statistics and proactively adjusts collection development strategies as needed.

  • Creates project and operating budget proposals for annual Library and Information Management funding requests.

  • Serves as the business application owner for the Research Library’s integrated library system and research guide platforms.

Position Requirements

  • Master’s degree in library and information science from an ALA-accredited program.

  • Proven history of effective communication with large groups of colleagues from varied functional backgrounds, particularly in a customer service setting.

  • Experience creating or managing organizational change as a project or team leader.

  • Experience evaluating and working with scientific and technical information sources in a library setting.

  • Ability to lift cartons of books up to 50 pounds and push heavy book trucks.

  • To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.

The expected hiring range for this position is $100,519.00 - $158,618.07.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Additionally, comprehensive benefits are part of the total rewards package.
