Argonne National Laboratory Network Administrator I/II in Lemont, Illinois

The NTNS Directorate is looking for a network administrator to provide network support and computer system administration in support of a variety of hardware and operating systems, with a focus on Windows. The selected individual will provide technical support throughout the directorate. and assist in network equipment management. The selected individual will design, install, and support NTNS Windows and Linux servers and workstations. The individual will recommend software and hardware to meet user and program needs and provide desktop support for internal and external employees and project personnel and manage enterprise-level servers and applications used for configuration and operations of NTNS systems.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide expertise in onboarding and configuration of virtual environments, as well as enterprise system management.

  • Assist users in selection and configuration of systems and software to meet programmatic needs.

  • Write and edit systems documents including Standard Operating Procedures and Security documents. Train users in use and implementation of lab applications.

  • Research and recommend new hardware and software technology to improve security and efficiency of NTNS systems.

  • Develop skills and expertise to support division operations and programs.

Position Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of virtualization, SAN, and server configuration, administration, and maintenance.

  • Knowledge of Windows user and server OSes and hardware and associated software.

  • Knowledge of desktop and server computer hardware and software products.

  • Skill in maintaining computer network and interconnectivity hardware and software in a secure manner and keeping abreast of current technologies.

  • Knowledge of software installation script development products.

  • Knowledge of Linux OS

  • Knowledge of networking concepts.

  • Verbal and written communication skills.

  • Skill at organizing project tasks within time constraints.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s Core Values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.

Other:

To perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract.

This position can be hired at one of two levels; the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PT1 or PT2) dependent upon the depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills. The minimum requirements of the two levels are as follows:

  • PT1: Bachelor’s and 0+ years of experience or equivalent.

  • PT2: Bachelor’s and 2+ years of experience or equivalent.
