Town of Leland Custodian I in Leland, North Carolina
Performs basic semiskilled work in the care and cleaning of buildings, opening and securing buildings, performing minor building maintenance, and related work as apparent or assigned. This position is designated as essential during emergency or disaster situations. Work is performed under the close supervision of the Custodial Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
- Sweeps and vacuums assigned areas and rooms; sweeps and mops hard floors.
- Scrubs and cleans restrooms including mirrors, wash basins, commodes, etc., refills paper products, soap dispensers, and cleaning supplies.
- Empties waste cans from rooms and buildings; picks up trash inside and outside.
- Dusts furniture, walls, windowsills, and other woodwork; checks for cobwebs; cleans air vents.
- Cleans doors, windows, and other glass surfaces; cleans up spills.
- Changes air filters and light bulbs.
- Performs routine building maintenance work; makes minor repairs and adjustments to facility; assembles and repairs furnishings and equipment.
- Monitors installed equipment, checks fire extinguishers.
- Waters and cares for interior plants.
- Operates buffing machines and other custodial equipment.
- Sets up and breaks down rooms (tables and chairs) for special events.
- Regularly demonstrates the Towns core values of respect, engagement, supportive work environment, communication, and service excellence.
- Performs work during emergency or disaster situations as assigned.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
::: {bind="html: Job.Requirements"} - High school diploma or GED and minimal (less than one year) experience in building cleaning or custodial services. - Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Some knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently.
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
- Ability to read and write basic instructions and work orders.
- Ability to complete and maintain work orders on work performed.
- Ability to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as assigned.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts within arms length, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, exposure to vibration and exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
