COUNTY OF BERKS Laundry Seamstress Operator - Berks Heim Nursing & Rehabilitation Center (PT) in Leesport, Pennsylvania
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs seamstress duties by mending and repairing resident's garments using commercial sewing machines; does related assigned laundry tasks as required.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions
- Operates commercial sewing machines for mending garments and repairable items for resident use.
- Prints and attaches resident's name labels on to their personal clothing and belongings.
- Receives, sorts, distributes, and accounts for clothing and linen.
- Assists laundry in processing clean linen when necessary.
- Keeps laundry room and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Maintains and oils machines.
- Does related laundry tasks as required.
- Monthly tracking of all linen to be discarded.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Experience in sewing and mending on a volume basis.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must be 18 years of age with knowledge in operation and care of sewing machines.
- Ability to keep records and follow oral and written direction.
- Ability to cut material from patterns.
- Ability to handle stress.
- Physical presence in the Facility is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Good physical condition due to the demanding aspects of the job.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds and push and pull carts.
- Able to sit, 100 % of the time except during breaks.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Must be able to tolerate extreme heat due to the laundry equipment.
