Town of Leesburg Traffic Technician I or Traffic Technician II in Leesburg, Virginia

What You'll Be Doing Under direct supervision of the Senior Traffic Technician in the Public Works and Capital Projects Department, an employee in this position will assist with the daily operations and maintenance of traffic signals throughout the Town of Leesburg, investigate and report signal/traffic related issues, help review and resolve citizen complaints regarding traffic, and data collection. This position requires working outside in all types of weather conditions, direct contact with Town citizens, and working safely with vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Required Qualifications

Traffic Technician I:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing a variety of skilled trades and/or maintenance work, or equivalent combination of accepted education, training and experience.
  • Possession of a valid drivers license and a safe driving record.
  • IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control within one (1) year of employment.
  • Level I IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Certification within one (1) year of employment.
  • Is considered essential personnel and must be available for on-call emergency response as needed outside of normal working hours within 1.5 hours, including but not limited to rotating on-call shifts or for inclement weather conditions.

Traffic Technician II:

  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in traffic signal maintenance and repairs or equivalent combination of accepted education, training and experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of holding valid Level 2 IMSA Traffic Signal Field Technician Certification.
  • IMSA Work Zone Traffic Control.
  • Possession of a valid drivers license and a safe driving record.
  • Is considered essential personnel and must be available for on-call emergency response as needed outside of normal working hours within 1.5 hours, including but not limited to rotating on-call shifts or for inclement weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

Traffic Technician I:

  • Technical school or college courses in Electrical Technologies, such as Computer Science, Computer Applications or other technology-based education relating to traffic signal operations/maintenance.
  • Experience in traffic control work.
  • Understanding of traffic signal utility installations and roadway construction.
  • Commercial Drivers License or ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.

Traffic Technician II:

  • Technical school or college courses in Electrical Technologies, such as Computer Science, Computer Applications or other Technology-based education relating to Traffic Signal operations/maint nance.
  • Signal related certifications (CMU, Video Detection, Pre-Emption and/or Fiber).
  • Experience in traffic signal design.
  • Understanding of traffic signals, utility installations and roadway construction.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in signal or utility construction.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
