The Program Management/Construction Management Group at APTIM is seeking a highly experienced and talented Office Engineer/Construction Inspector to join our New Jersey project team . The Office Engineer/Construction Inspector will plan, develop, coordinate, and manage onsite construction inspection activities for transportation and Infrastructure (Bridge Reconstruction and Repairs, Roadway Construction and Utilities) related projects as well as manage project inspection functions and activities.

Job Summary

  • APTIM is seeking candidates with experience on heavy highway construction projects. Candidate will be responsible for project reporting, quantity control, payment review and documentation, material certification, and field inspection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance and distribution of project records in accordance with contract requirements.

  • Maintain daily records using the client's document management system.

  • Attend meetings, responsible for the preparation and distribution of project correspondence/records, performance reporting, administration and scheduling, documentation of project meetings and reporting, and tasks assigned by the Resident Engineer (RE)

  • Support the RE and Inspectors on the review and validation of contractor quantities, certified payrolls, payments/invoices, monthly schedule progress reporting, change orders, contractor Requests for Information (RFI), shop drawings, and .

  • Support the RE on both internal and customer reporting on project performance; financial/budgets reporting; staffing forecasts, and schedule reviews.

  • Review traffic protection procedures

  • Keep up to date running totals of quantities, and red-line As-built drawings for all the disciplines

  • Support and supervise construction inspection activities, analyze all technical aspects of highway, local roadway, water main and sewer installation, and utilities reconstruction, reviewing and recommending construction changes to the Resident Engineer,

  • Write daily inspection reports, inspect construction materials and activities, verify quantities of work completed and authorize for payment

  • Will serve as a resident engineer's technical representative for the management and inspection of contractor construction activities.

  • Perform tests required to ensure material compliance with contract documents.

  • Responsible for enforcing safety and quality requirements, help with processing payments, negotiating claims and change orders, supervising inspectors, and will represent construction progress in project meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required

  • 5-7 years' experience in Bridge and Roadway Repairs and Reconstruction Projects, with technical knowledge of construction process

  • NICET Level III Inspectors for inspection services

  • Certified ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician, Grade 1

  • 10-hour OSHA Construction Certification

  • Ability to determine and apply contract requirements

  • Knowledge of other discipline scopes, roles, and responsibilities

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word & Excel)

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Interacts well in a dynamic, office team environment

  • Knowledge of company and project safety requirements

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

  • EIT or PE is a plus

  • NJ SAT Certification

  • NJ Traffic Construction Coordinator

  • NACE CIP Certification
