Job Description:

  • 70% - Conduct interviews and focus groups and administer surveys with clients of violence prevention support services and residents of communities in Kansas City, Missouri most affected by community violence.

  • 15% - Coordinate data collection efforts for violence prevention projects.

  • 15% - Assist senior staff in preparing research and evaluation reports and other technical reports/publications, presentations for violence prevention projects.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or three years of human service experience in communities in Kansas City, Missouri, preferably with experience engaging the public and violence prevention or conflict mediation.

  2. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, as evidenced by the quality of the application materials.

  3. At least 2 years of experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Advertised Salary Range:

$18/hr - $25/hr

.375 - .50

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a field related to community/public health, behavioral or social sciences, or related field.

  2. At least 1 year of experience working in a community health setting that interacts with the public, a community-based organization focused on serving area residents, and/or contribution to research or evaluation projects (internal to support the agency or as part of a research, policy, or marketing study team)

  3. Demonstrated relationship building with community and professional audiences, as shown in application materials.

  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and prior experience interviewing or outreaching to agency clientele to meet service needs or resolve conflict and/or problem-solving, as demonstrated in application materials.

  5. Experience with qualitative data management, evaluation/research supports, or other relevant experience such as data collection internal to an agency to support quality or program/agency improvement and the agency mission, evaluation, and/or reporting, as demonstrated in application materials.

Position Overview:

The Center for Community Health and Development is seeking two part-time Research Assistants (15-20 hours a week) to support data collection through interviews, survey and focus groups and other evaluation services, training, and technical support for community health and development violence prevention initiatives.. We seek individuals who are skilled in community engagement and improvement. The position is funded through the Center for Community Health & Development at the University of Kansas (KU CCHD) ( http://communityhealth.ku.edu ).
