University of Kansas Sample Processing Research Aide (Located in Wichita, KS) in Lawrence, Kansas

28970BR

Job Title:

Sample Processing Research Aide (Located in Wichita, KS)

Department:

Kansas Geological Survey

Primary Campus:

KS Geologic Sample Respository

Job Description:

40% Box Maintenance and Sample Labels:

  • Replace damaged sample boxes and envelopes with the appropriate labels.

  • Accurately enter sample and well data using assigned workstation, print labels, and attach labels to sample envelopes. When re-boxing or re-enveloping well samples, accuracy is of great importance; errors render samples unlocatable, negating the value of the well samples.

  • Follow procedures detailed in the KGSR Standard Operating Procedures document for box maintenance duties and other job duties.

35% Sample Inspection and Processing:

  • Evaluate box and sample conditions as well as accuracy of information associated with each sample.

  • Check accuracy of label information against the well sample database. When necessary, other sources may be used, such as completion cards, drillers' logs, wireline log headers, etc.

  • Corrections made to the labels will be reported to the Assistant Researcher to update the well sample database.

10% Quality Control and Data Entry:

  • Quality control and proofread Assistant Researcher and Temporary Geology Assistant’s box maintenance and data entry work, ensuring all information has been entered correctly, including verifying box numbers, depth, index cards, and skips are correct. Any errors could result in the samples being rendered unlocatable, negating the value of the well samples.

  • Utilize database to record information on library sample box maintenance.

5% Requested Samples:

  • Retrieve and replace sample boxes per loan requests. The database should be queried when needed to obtain identification of samples for specific oil or gas wells.

  • Prepare sample boxes for customers and give well and box information to the Assistant Researcher. Place requested boxes on the pickup table in front door entryway, and take to the examination room if samples are to be examined on site, or prepared and packaged for shipping.

  • Place all boxes returned to the library on the sample intake table located in the sample processing room for Assistant Researcher to check in.

  • Return boxes to the proper warehouse location.

5% Storage and Placement:

  • Retrieve sample boxes from warehouse to be maintained.

  • Corrected, filled boxes are replaced in the appropriate location on warehouse bulk storage racks.

5% Miscellaneous:

  • Research Aide drops off materials at various recycling stations using the state-owned vehicle.

  • Perform preventative maintenance of assigned equipment and facilities to include touch-up painting of walls, repairing minor faucet leaks, etc., and driving vehicle to and from dealer repair shop as directed by the Assistant Researcher or Manager.

  • Dust, clean floors, empty waste baskets, and other clean up as needed.

  • Assist in loading or unloading state and commercial vehicles and placing received items on shelves or pallets.
