Job Description:

50% - Program Management

  • Independently coordinates the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) national accreditation process and is responsible for the success of the accreditation program.

  • Conducts regular reviews of policies and procedures to meet current accreditation standards; revises policies and forms to meet accreditation standards; distributes policy and tracks receipts of dissemination; compiles and maintains all written directives and proofs of compliance with accreditation process; assists in the construction and maintenance of accreditation files in PowerDMS to ensure reaccreditation; manages administrative report tracking log and proof tracker to ensure timely compliance with accreditation standards.

  • Serves as KLETC’s designated accreditation manager and representative to CALEA. Represents KLETC in communications with CALEA staff and serves as principal liaison with assessors during on-site assessment.

  • Develops and conducts accreditation-specific training for new KLETC employees and in preparation for on-site assessments.

  • Attends accreditation training, association meetings, and conferences.

  • Serves as KLETC’s representative to the Kansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Coalition (KLEAC).

  • Tracks program requirements within both the national accreditation program and the state’s accreditation program, the Kansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (KLEAP).

  • Assists with conducting state program training classes, to include but not limited to orientation, accreditation manager training, file Construction via Adobe Pro, and assessor training.

  • Maintains the KLEAP databases and handles the day-to-day administrative needs of the state program, including electronic document management, invoicing, and updating program resources.

  • Focuses on state accreditation promotion to include working booths, developing social media posts, and managing website content.

30% - Technology management

  • Assists Program Director with software system for policies, training, and other records.

  • Compiles data and verifies information, tracks project timelines, activities and updates progress and summary reports.

  • Monitors national accreditation website and email accounts for both CALEA and KLEAP as needed. Completes training course for accreditation software programs.

10% - Preparation of materials

  • Assists with the coordination of on-site assessments and remote file inspections.

  • Coordinates tasks for accreditation and review initiatives, including scheduling meetings, training classes, preparing meeting materials, taking minutes and coordinating on action and follow-up items.

  • Prepares printed materials, such as accreditation training handouts and accreditation certificates.

10% - Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience;

  2. Experience applying communication skills to conduct presentations, communicate ideas, and proposals effectively, as evidenced by work history and application materials;

  3. Experience organizing, managing and supervising multiple and varied tasks and projects as demonstrated by education, work history and application material;

  4. Valid Kansas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in law enforcement;

  2. Experience in training academy accreditation;

  3. Experience with Excel, PowerPoint, PowerDMS, and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC;

  4. Experience that demonstrates an ability to work well with groups of people at different levels and from various backgrounds, as well different internal/external organizations;

  5. Experience working with members of the law enforcement community and/or professional law enforcement associations;

  6. Experience requiring excellent organizational skills and attention to detail as evidenced by application materials;

  7. Experience working independently and to achieve goals with minimal supervision;

  8. Experience working effectively in a team environment and with deadlines and multiple, rapidly evolving priorities.

Position Overview:

Hutchinson Campus

The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings including two multi-story residential student dormitories.

The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU), KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget, 62 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 15,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year.
