Position Summary Information

General Summary

TheStudent Intern – Procurementperforms a wide range of functional and technical tasks that align with the Procurement Department’s process improvement and electronic records management initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Develop project schedules, establish milestone dates, and manage project delivery timelines.

  • Gather, analyze, and interpret procurement data from various sources.

  • Input data accurately into databases, systems, or spreadsheets.

  • Investigate, document, and recommend improvements to established business processes.

  • Design and implement forms, tools, and templates to standardize procedures.

  • Publish tools and communicate updates effectively to WSSC Water staff using online platforms.

  • Create and maintain documents, reports, spreadsheets, and databases.

  • Analyze procurement data to generate insights and support informed business decisions.

  • Collaborate actively with team members to achieve departmental objectives.

  • Prepare clear, concise, and grammatically correct written materials.

  • Assist the Operations Analyst in maintaining the accuracy of procurement data within ERP systems.

  • Develop presentations to communicate data insights to WSSC Water’s stakeholders, including procurement management.

Other Functions

  • Performs procurement-related analysis, as directed

  • Performs other related duties, as required

Work is performed in a business casual office setting.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Organizational skills to keep track of data and ensure its accuracy

  • MS Office proficiency, especially using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Ability to utilize and maintain a high degree of discretion, confidentiality and judgment regarding sensitive matters

  • Excellent verbal and written and interpersonal skills

  • Superior multi-tasking skills, prioritizing projects with stringent timelines and deadlines

  • Ability to effectively manage workload within team setting

  • Ability to demonstrate good judgment in applying laws, regulations, and policies and procedures

Minimum Education, Experience Requirements

College student

Additional Requirements

  • Experience using data analysis, process improvement, or project management software, and/or web-based tools

  • Proficient in MS Office applications

Preferences

  • Prior experience or coursework in procurement, supply chain management, or business process improvement.

  • Familiarity with project management tools and software, such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or similar platforms.

  • Basic understanding of procurement principles, contract management, or public sector operations.

  • Proficiency in data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify opportunities for efficiency and improvement.

  • Experience with online collaboration tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, or similar platforms).

  • Interest in pursuing a career in procurement, public administration, or data analytics.
