Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motived a Buyer who will analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability. They will develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures. The Buyer will participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products, or substitute materials. They will resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers. The Buyer will review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.

  • Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and in the correct amounts.
  • Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals, and review requisitions for goods and services.
  • Negotiate, or renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
  • Monitor and follow applicable laws and regulations.
  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
  • Confer with staff, users, and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action.
  • Review catalogs, industry periodicals, directories, trade journals, and Internet sites, and consult with other department personnel to locate necessary goods and services.
  • Arrange the payment of duty and freight charges.
  • Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other data and information to determine reasonable prices.
  • Monitor shipments to ensure that goods come in on time, and in the event of problems trace shipments and follow up undelivered goods.

Experience and Skills

In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.

  • Three (3) plus years of experience in Purchasing, Buying or Procurement
  • Computer Skills: Comfortable with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Costpoint experience is a plus.

Education

High School grad or GED required.
