Southwest Gas Corporation Supervisor/GIS Staff in Las Vegas, Nevada
The Supervisor/Geographic Information Systems Staff supervises Geographic Information Staff (GIS) staff and provides primary technical guidance for GIS software operation and configuration as well as data configuration and structures; AutoCAD software: PaperVision and Capture document management software; FieldSmart Viewer; GPS software and hardware for five operating divisions and Great Basin Gas Transmission Company. The incumbent will work with division management, Engineering Staff and IS in planning, budgeting, implementing and supporting their GIS computer infrastructure and well as acting as the technical interface between IS, Mobile Projects and other corporate departments that interface with the GIS data.
QUALIFICATIONS
There are clear precedents and practices which the incumbent uses to determine how this job is performed. This position requires five to eight years of relevant technical experience, including one to two years of supervisory experience. Knowledge and abilities must include computer and network concepts and strategies, cognizance of information technology business practices, organization in supporting Company policies and possess good presentation skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure local staffing ( Supervisors/GIS, Analysts/GIS and GIS Mapping Specialists) are trained to support the division’s GIS mapping requirements
Coordinate and supervise all aspects of new functionality and enhancements for the GIS system.
Manage end user expectations relative to project milestones and project deadlines
Provide daily oversight and guidance for multiple projects (e.g., server upgrades, software implementations, local area network changes, etc.)
Maintain weekly communications with division management contacts on outstanding problems, scheduled changes and project status
Maintain weekly communications between GIS Staff and the Mobile Projects Group.
Complete performance appraisals and salary recommendations
Oversee corporate policy and standard with regards to mapping and drawing activities insuring that all standards and procedures are up-to-date and training has be conducted as appropriate
Provide initial approve of material requisitions (MR), work orders (WO), work hours (OLTE), vacations and other personnel matters
Establish standard practices for administering GIS end-user accounts, data drive mappings, file and print management services. Provide back-up support for division personnel when they are on extended absences
Provide leadership and recommendations to support GIS software, software configuration, data configuration and structure and provide input to IS on client/server functions in all divisions
Participate in the analysis, recommendations and solutions leading to the resolution of GIS software and data issues and provide assistance to IS on client/server-related problems
Maintain a level of organization and task prioritization that promotes the department’s strategic, tactical and operational strategies.
Approve and coordinate GIS change schedules
Plan, justify, monitor and explain departmental budget expenditures
Communicate and support Company policies (e.g., safety, security, etc.).Update and document GIS software and data configurations based upon Division and regulatory requirements
Ensure each division’s GIS system software and data structure is properly configured to support the business units of each department
Respond in a timely manner to problem calls and request for help
Plan, communicate and conduct projects in a non-disruptive, non-intrusive manner
Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job
SALARY DETAILS
Las Vegas: $92,000 - $138,000
