McLaren Health Care Endoscopy Technician - McLaren Careers in Lansing, Michigan

Assists medical and nursing staff during endoscopy procedures. Responsible for ensuring cleanliness of the endoscopy rooms and that they are fully prepared.

Prepares and maintains instruments and equipment; may obtain specimens.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

:

  1. Ensures that endoscopy rooms are clean, sterile and stocked prior to procedures, including sterilizing surgical instruments.

  2. Maintains inventories of endoscopic equipment and supplies.

  3. Performs safety checks to verify proper equipment functioning; maintains or repairs endoscopic equipment.

  4. Prepares suites or rooms according to endoscopic procedure requirements.

  5. Cleans, disinfects, or calibrates scopes or other endoscopic instruments according to manufacturer recommendations and facility standards for colonoscopy, EGD, ERCP, bronchoscopy and any other type of endoscopic procedure.

  6. Positions or transports patients in accordance with instructions from medical personnel.

  7. Sets up, scrubs and supports members of the team during endoscopic procedures including collecting specimens from patients using standard medical procedures.

  8. Performs clerical duties such as ordering supplies, maintaining logs, pulling up and/or entering patient information, doing inventory and supporting the administrative and clerical staff as needed.

  9. Delivers compassionate support, attention, and assistance to patients and families.

  10. Ensures compliance with all health care regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA.

  11. Maintains safe and clean working environment and protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.

  12. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Three months of clinical experience and/or training in an ancillary department.

  • Patient care in an acute care setting within thepast two years required.

  • BLS certification.

Preferred:

  • Endoscopy Technician Certification by the SGNA-Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates.

  • One year of experience in a comparable medical setting.
