BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY:

Assist in carrying out the mission and goals of the Baraga County Shelter Home by providing high-quality victim-centered and trauma-informed support, information, and referrals to survivors of domestic violence through emergency shelter and crisis intervention coverage at the Baraga County Shelter Home, Inc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

I .        Answer crisis calls in a compassionate and professional manner and provide crisis intervention and referrals as necessary.

  1. Provide callers and shelter participants with emotional support, safety planning, advocacy, and resource referrals as appropriate.
  2. Provide a safe source of support and empowerment to victims/survivors and their children utilizing survivor-centered and trauma-informed skills, including empathic listening, non-judgmental response, and de-escalation.
  3. Conduct intake and exit procedures with shelter participations as appropriate on your shift.
  4. Maintain safety and security standards of BCSH facility and population.
  5. Assist in meeting the needs of shelter participants, including orienting participants to and maintaining respectful and supportive communal living.
  6. Maintain accurate and clear documentation of participant interactions in the BCSH database and report services provided as required.
  7. Attend staff meetings and occasional retreats and in-service workshops as deemed necessary by the Executive Director.
  8. Complete daily activity log.
  9. Maintain professional and appropriate public behavior as a representative of BCSH and serve as a visible spokesperson and advocate for BCSH's mission and programs in the community.
  10. Maintain strict confidentiality.
  11. Immediately report emergency/extraordinary situations to the Executive Director.
  12. Perform all Other duties as assigned.
