Water Street Mission Recuperative Care Assistant in Lancaster, Pennsylvania

For Water Street Mission to fulfill its mission and purpose, it is critical for all staff to participate in the development and maintenance of a healthy Christian Community. Job Summary: Provide support to guests in the WSHS recuperative care program by assisting the nurse team, providing transportation, social check-ins, providing basic medical care when needed and supporting guests to meet their health goals.

FLSA: Full-time, (40 hours) Non-Exempt, Evening Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 11am-9:30pm.

All Water Street Mission staff must be:

• Willing to sign the Water Street Missions' Statement of Faith.

Essential Functions:

Culture and Values

• Share the Good News of Jesus Christ in words and actions with people we serve, communicating hope and dignity.

• Walk alongside fellow WSM staff in Christian community as we journey toward maturity.

• Encourage restoration in the lives of coworkers and guests, recognizing we are each restored by God to become restorers.

• Work in full coordination with other WSM staff at all times to identify, report and respond appropriately to any potential threats to the safety and wellbeing of guests.

Role Specific Responsibilities

• Provide an orientation to WSM and the RCP program for new guests.

• Meal delivery if a guest is unable to ambulate to the dining hall.

• Provide basic cleaning duties or on an as needed basis (someone vomits or has an incontinence episode)

• Develop rapport and a supportive therapeutic relationship with guests to encourage them to meet their health goals and create a healing environment.

• Provide “warm hand off” referrals to other staff (internally or externally) whenever possible.

• Maintain a trauma-informed approach to care and interactions with guests.

• Obtain basic vital signs when needed and assist triage next steps regarding medical events.

• Interface with LC and SW team when needed (all shifts)

• Document promptly and appropriately in Salesforce or EPIC

• Provide RCP administrative support.

• Assist with restocking supplies in RCP rooms.

• Provide transportation to and from RCP program to various medical appointments and social service needs.

Education and Experience: High School graduate or GED required. Driving license required. Experience working with people experiencing homelessness and/or substance misuse strongly preferred. Ease of speaking to others and building rapport. Strong computer skills. Certified medical assistant or similar training preferred. Spanish-speaking is preferred.

Required training on hire (provided by WSM):

• CPR and Narcan administration

• Mental Health First Aid

• QPR suicide prevention

• Online training courses from NIMRC as directed by supervisor

• EPIC and Salesforce training

• Motivational Interviewing course

Reports To: Recuperative Care Program Manager

Key Internal Relationships: WSHS staff, SW and LC team, AC team

Physical Demands:

Occasionally = 1%-33%; Frequently = 34%-66%; Continuously = 67%-100%

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
