Location Description Post Consumer Brands corporate headquarters in Lakeville, Minn. is about 20 miles south of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Lakeville has all the benefits of smaller town living with access to everything a large metropolitan area has to offer. Responsibilities We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support Pet Ingredient Technology at Post Pet Brands. As part of the Pet R&D team, this individual will be responsible for ensuring the best nutrition for Dog and Cat Food (Wet and Dry) and treat product initiatives. The Scientist will work cross-functionally to drive optimal ingredient impact (Ex: quality, nutrition, functionality, processability) across brands which supports the success across a wide variety of project types (innovation, cost out, renovation, etc.). The individual will support identification, qualification, and specification evaluation of new ingredients, and monitoring and maintenance of existing ingredients, formulation, and nutrient databases. The Scientist will also partner with procurement, product development, marketing, regulatory affairs and externally with ingredient suppliers to develop comprehensive ingredient and formulation specifications. They will also play a critical role in problem solving and root cause analysis for driving continuous improvement. This position provides Hybrid flexibity out of our Lakeville Corporate office. Responsibilities and Accountabilities Characterize and document key physical and functional attributes; critical chemical/nutritional composition, considers the impact of processing ingredients and the result on finished goods. Partners with Pet R&D to develop continuous ingredient surveillance program and analyze results. Responsible for updating and maintaining specifications associated with product lifecycle management (PLM); from ingredients to finished pet foods and treats. Provide support to Procurement, Manufacturing and Quality & Food Safety to ensure nutritional compliance and food safety. Build strong, collaborative relationships with Pet cross-functional partners, influence & guide internal and external suppliers, anticipate challenges, and proactively plan to address them. Determine priorities against the business and Pet R&D objectives. Qualifications Critical Leadership Expectations: Put Safety First, Do Right, Win As One, Be Bold, Bring Joy, Act Like An Fundamental knowledge in food science and processing technologies. Familiarity of ingredient nutritional value and nutrient bioavailability, and the complex interactions that influence it (e.g. physiology, formulation, manufacturing processes). Ability to use Feed Formulation Systems and PLM packages, practical understanding of statistics and application. Ability to multi-task and leverage resources across multiple projects or assignments. Strong collaboration skills and experience partnering internally and externally. Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, complex ideas to various stakeholders. Ability to thrive in a changing and fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously. Willingness to embrace changing business priorities and ambiguity. Ability to influence and lead others without direct guidance. Job location is in Lakeville MN. Up to 25% Travel may be required. Education 4-year B.S degree in food science, food technology, food engineering, or companion animal nutrition with 2-4 years relevant experience (Feed / Petfood Industry) Master’s degree in food science, food technology, food engineering or nutrition preferred.
