Overview

The Yard Hostler Lead is responsible for Operation of yard tractors, tractors and straight trucks to position equipment to and from the yard and warehouse. Additional duties include operating warehouse power equipment and other assigned tasks when needed. Lead, train and guide team of Yard Hostlers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform under the guidance of each Department's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and/or direction of the area supervisor

  • Maintain the highest of quality product and service, accuracy and team work

  • Skillfully operate and maneuver tractor/yard hostler combo with 53' trailer to position at the warehouse doors and park in assigned locations in the yard

  • Fuel and wash mobile equipment when required

  • Abide by all driving safety codes and rules while performing maneuvers

  • Operate power equipment within the warehouse when called upon by supervisors

  • Assist with driving tractor trailers and or company delivery vehicles when needed and directed by the Warehouse Manager

  • Maintain an organized and clean work environment.

  • Assist in maintaining the security of the Warehouse and product

  • Actively support and participate in all Warehouse safety and safety committee requests

  • Abide by all local SGWS Employee Guidelines as set in the Employee Handbook

  • Attend required safety meetings as requested (Driver meeting, Department of Transportation safety meetings, OIP team meetings)

  • Assist, when requested, for any and all inventory control requirements (e.g., physical inventories, cycle counting, security verification, etc.)

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Additional Primary Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency plus 1 years of experience

  • Commercial Driver s License (CDL) required

Physical Demands

  • Physical demands include a considerable amount of time walking, bending, reaching, standing, squatting, and stooping

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes

  • Must be able to regularly sit and operate machinery such as a forklift

  • May require working at heights of 8 feet or greater

  • Additional hours may be required during October, November, and December and other peak periods

  • Must be able to frequently lift/lower, push, carry, or pull 60 pounds (lbs.) repetitively
