Project Overview:
Louisiana LNG is located approximately 11 miles southwest of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The project includes a mid-scale, mixed-refrigerant Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on the west side of the Calcasieu River. There are five identical process plants. Each process plant consists of one gas pre-treatment unit, one condensate stabilization unit, and four Chart heavy hydrocarbon (HHC) removal and liquefaction groups. The facility will include associated utilities, refrigerant storage, three 235,000m3 full-containment LNG storage tanks, and three marine berths.
Job Summary:
Assigned to the Construction organization as an Area Lead Surveyor (ALS) Marine Works, reporting directly to the Project Lead Surveyor (PLS). Supervise and/or direct construction survey activities relating to construction engineering, layout of foundation locations, equipment locations, structural steel placement, subcontracts, and engineering liaison with the design functional group. Use design drawings, model and specifications to determine associated commodities locations. Works with Field Engineering to support field verification of materials as appropriate and needed. Provides technical support as related to survey to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situation and configurations. Multi-Disciplined Field Engineering responsibilities with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, marine works, etc. installation activities. Leads the field and office survey team, or teams in support of the construction activities in the marine works area.
Major Responsibilities:
The Area Lead Surveyor (ALS) - Marine Works duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Lead the oversight of the survey operations and provides technical direction to the direct-hire survey team in the marine works area
Support the survey team's implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programs
Responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications and appropriate methods of performing survey activities
Provide Construction Survey support to both Field Engineering and Field Supervision
Establish and/or verify and maintain the project's survey control network in the marine works area, always coordinating with the PLS
Perform verifications of subcontract survey control points and work
Perform and/or supervise the preparation of survey CAD drawings, including generation of Digital Terrain Models (DTM) and volumes computations
Perform and/or review Survey Control field work and perform accurate network least squares adjustments
Provide Civil project completion documentation including "As-Built" records
Oversee the development and management of survey data
Oversee the Calibration Baseline checks of survey instruments
Support the administration of the survey work request program
Perform and/or check survey computations as required in the performance of duties
Support the implementation of project's machine control technology
Support the implementation of the Laser Scanning operations, including reality capture and processing of scan data
Support the implementation of the UAV (Drones) program
Support the creation and implementation of the survey training program
Operate marine positioning/guidance software for Piling and material placement
Perform depth check soundings
Perform sonar surveys using marine sonar software
Prepare 3D CAD models and data files needed for the marine guidance software
Troubleshoot machine control marine software
Perform dredge quantity reports
Coordinates with marine equipment/software vendor and Superintendent
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Multi-Disciplined Field Engineering Survey experience with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping, etc. installation layout and verification
Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
Knowledge of construction survey principles
Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to industrial surveying field & office activities
Demonstrated ability to maintain a safe work ethic and work environment at all times
Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, contractors and survey functional management
Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner
Excellent problem-solving ability
Prior LNG Project Surveying Experience
Prior Sonar Survey experience
Demonstrated experience with Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels and GNSS survey systems
Demonstrated experience using Trimble survey equipment and Access field software
Proficiency with 3D Survey CAD software, (Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center), including the ability to perform and check digital computations for generation of survey layout data and drafting of as staked/as-built data; generate DTMs and compute volumes
Demonstrated proficiency with preparation of 3D CAD models and data files needed for the marine guidance software
Experience working on multiple work fronts
Work under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Advanced knowledge of data downloading.
Intermediate level use of Microsoft Office software, including, Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
Preferred Skills:
Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Incidents" safety program.
Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards. Must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero rework
Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures
Prior Energy GBU experience
Experience as Pilot of UAV (Drones) a plus
Familiarity with heavy equipment Machine Control technology
Experience with 3D Laser Scanning hardware and software
Able to operate/navigate survey boat for Sonar surveys
General awareness of environmental laws
Awareness of government compliance standards
Additional Information: Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
