Correctional Sentence Specialist – SES – 70001824

This advertisement is for a SES (Select Exempt Service) position located at Reception and Medical Centerin the Classification Department.

Salary: $40,829.36 annually

SALARY WILL BE APPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH PAY POLICY. THE SELECTEDCANDIDATE WILL BE APPOINTED AT THE ABOVE LISTED APPOINTMENT RATE.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent in this position is responsible for calculating the release date on sentence structure of inmates primarily serving one or more sentences which do not involve complex calculations of multiple out-time segments and penalties verification.

  • Verifies computer calculations of tentative release dates by using manual computation procedures. Verifies sentence structure against actual commitment papers and applies Florida Statutes or case laws to confirm the accuracy of data. Notifies the Central Office, Bureau of Admission and Release Authority of any noted discrepancies. Communicates with local Criminal Justice Agencies to clarify sentence structure if needed, or to confirm validity of outstanding charges for possible detainer.

  • Supervises the preparation of all documents relating to the final release of inmates either by expiration, parole, court order, etc. Assures authorization is received from the Admission and Release authority and reviews institutional inmates’ records for any pending matters or charges, which may interfere with the timely release of inmates. Advises inmates of eligibility for restoration of their civil rights, registration requirements and any other pertinent instructions. Request printing of discharge gratuity and prepares voucher for purchases of transportation ticket for eligible inmates. Just prior to actual release, again verifies the accuracy of release dates and check computer records for additional flagged or pending matters. Ensures entry of final release code and transfer of institutional inmate records to the appropriate storage center. Notifies sentencing Judge, State Attorney, arresting Sheriff, etc. of pending releases.

  • Ensures accuracy of computer entry items relating to the inmate information system pertaining to data affecting the location of an inmate and the tentative release date. Assist in training of new employees in usage of the database and data entry responsibilities.

  • Supervises a Data Entry Operator and Clerk Typist Specialist in the performance of their duties. Ensures all mandatory training, performance appraisals are completed timely and accurately.

  • Supervises the daily maintenance of the institutional inmate record and data base including posting of all cell changes or house assignments, work assignments, disciplinary reports, detainer and modification of sentence structure authorized by the Admission & Release authority.

  • Prepares affidavits or testifies in Federal or State Court, or administrative hearings when served by subpoena. Prepares and signs certifications attesting to the authenticity of documents in institutional inmates’ records.

  • Interviews inmates as needed in response to questions and concerns. Explains sentence structures, detainer, gain time, etc.

  • Coordinates inter-state agreements on detainer actions when final disposition is requested by inmate, interviews inmate to prepare appropriate documents for release. When final disposition is requested by local law enforcement agencies, instructs inmate as to his/her rights under the agreement. Coordinates with the State Attorney’s office for scheduling for hearing pursuant to Cuyler verses Adams. When requested, attends hearing and testified as to the contents of inmate records. If the Court remands an inmate, coordinates release to out of state agencies.

  • Supervises in the preparation of all inmate institutional files for transfer to other institutions. Obtains supplemental files and ensures closeout gain time recommendations are processed.

  • Develops and periodically evaluates procedure’s manual governing inmate record maintenance. Evaluates institution and department policies relating to the maintenance of sentence data and institution records to ensure compliance with American Correctional Association Standards.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Preference will be given to applicants with the following qualifications:

  • Supervisory skills preferred.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, or Power Point.

  • Experience auditing, analyzing, and/or interpreting data. Familiarity with sentence structure is preferred.

    Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.
