Position:Firefighter/EMT

Department:Fire

Salary:$50,464.96/Yr

Under general supervision and instruction this position performs fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical service and rescue activities.

Qualifications/Knowledge:

  • High school diploma or GED, current valid Georgia Class F driver's license
  • Must have one to three years of experience as a Firefighter/EMT
  • Must have State of Georgia Basic Emergency Medical Technician Certification
  • Georgia EMT-Intermediate or Advanced Certification preferred
  • Must have Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council Certification; NPQ Firefighter 1 and 2 Certification preferred; National Incident Management System/ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800 preferred; NPQ Haz-Mat Technician preferred
  • Must be able to work under stress and meet physical requirements
  • Knowledge of modern firefighting techniques and equipment; knowledge of modern EMS techniques and equipment
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations relating to the control and prevention of fires
  • Knowledge of department and county policies and procedures; knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs
  • Knowledge of the capabilities and uses of emergency vehicles and equipment
  • Skill in operating emergency vehicles and equipment; skill in the use of radio/communications equipment
  • Skill in the provision of medical care in emergency situations
  • Skill in planning, organization and decision making; skill in oral and written communication

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drives assigned apparatus to fire, rescue and emergency medical calls
  • Responds to fire alarms and uses firefighting skills to evaluate and carry out actions to most efficiently control the emergency at hand; assists with the fighting of structural fires
  • Operates a variety of pumps, ladders, hoses and other equipment at the scene of fire, rescue and other emergency incidents
  • Responds to medical emergencies and uses EMS skills to evaluate, treat and stabilize patients
  • Completes required reports detailing fire and medical incident responses
  • Completes required training and maintains required certifications
  • Inspects equipment to ensure that it is in proper working order; washes and cleans equipment on a regular basis; repairs and performs routine maintenance on equipment; ensures the proper functioning of all emergency medical equipment and vehicles
  • Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies aboard emergency vehicles; conducts regular inspections
  • Provides fire prevention information to the public and tours of the fire station; assists in teaching fire safety and other classes
  • Performs housekeeping, grounds keeping and building maintenance duties
  • Conducts station and apparatus tours for school and other community groups
  • Participates in public education events
  • Conducts pre-incident planning on commercial and residential structures as requested
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned
