HOURS: 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday

Job Summary :

The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) is responsible for providing care to patients with a deficit in self-care, mobility, safety, range of motion, or strength under the direction and supervision of the Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapy Assistant provides prescribed treatments aimed at restoring the patient to his/her maximum rehabilitative potential. The PTA participates in the implementation of the treatment plan as well as interdisciplinary conferencing for care coordination.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education: Graduate from an accredited school of Physical Therapy Assistant.

Experience: Minimum of six (6) months experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant.

Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Physical Therapy Assistant in the state of S.C. Current CPR certification.

Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic tasks and activities for improving

functional abilities and rehabilitative activities. Demonstrates knowledge of orthotic, prosthetic and adaptive/assistive devices. Demonstrates good organizational and time management techniques. Specialty Areas: Demonstrates competency and skills appropriate to the specialty area. Competency and verification of skills may be required when applying for specialty practice.

Other: Must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license, with a good driving record.

Contacts : Patient/family contacts in the home and various community settings. Contacts

with other health care professionals, community agencies, and agency personnel.

Work Demands/Environment :

Frequent standing, walking. Frequent lifting/moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving or carrying up to 50 lbs. Intermittent pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Frequent reaching with hands/arms. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Frequent driving. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department. Ability to read and comprehend. Possible exposure to unclean environments, toxic substances, pharmaceutical preparations, hazardous and unsafe driving conditions, and other conditions common to delivery of health care in the community.
