Actalent Site Safety & Health Officer in LaBelle, Florida

Job Description

Currently seeking a Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO).The SSHO will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks including assisting in day-to-day operations on the project site and managing safety. The SSHO will be on site during construction and will be responsible for the safety and occupational health management, surveillance, inspections, and safety enforcement. Success in this position requires a dynamic motivated individual.

We seek high-potential individuals who can learn quickly and grow with the organization, assuming additional responsibility as the organization expands. This person will initially support one of the largest heavy civil projects in Florida, a large reservoir project, for the next 1-3 years.They will also have the opportunity to work on a variety of other projects related to Florida everglades restoration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as SSHO reporting directly to the Project Manager.

  • Carries out all activities in relation to the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of the OH&S Management System complying with ISO 45001.

  • Manage, implement, and enforce the accepted Safety Accident Prevention Plan.

  • Maintain a safety and health deficiency tracking system that monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution. Distribute a list of unresolved safety and health deficiencies.

  • Write Safety proposals, interpret regulations, develop training, draft inspection standards and draft safety assessment tools.

  • Ensure subcontractor compliance and site-specific safety standards, codes, regulations.

  • Assist with the management of project schedules.

  • Assist with site access, including all site visits and deliveries.

  • Assist with identifying unknown risks, managing risk impact and how they will be addressed and mitigated.

  • Assist in project and business development responsibilities during development and implementation.

  • Collect field information and pictures as necessary.

  • Perform other field or office duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction and safety management required.

  • Ability to work irregular hours during implementation with a commitment to excellence.

  • Knowledge and experience with Safety and Quality Control standards and procedures.

  • Detail oriented, honed observation skills, strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to function in high performing, multi-disciplinary teams that provide reliable customer satisfaction.

  • Ability to anticipate challenges and proactively resolve them.

  • Knowledge of EM 385 would be a plus but not required.

  • OSHA-30, CHST, CSP, ASP certification is preferred.

  • Associate degree or equivalent research or coursework on occupational health and safety.

  • 2 years of office experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Proficiency in administrative skills, including word processing; editing documents including proofreading, grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, accuracy, clarity and syntax, attention to detail and format; filing and record keeping.

  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and assume responsibility for department projects and action items from inception to completion.
