The Traveling Medical Assistant Trainer is responsible for providing the training and onboarding experience of MA’s within the MDE clinics and facilities. The MA Trainer ensures the competency, development and quality assurance of MAs. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that medical assistants are competent in the role to provide high-quality patient care and ensure clinical compliance. The traveling medical assistant trainers play a pivotal role in shaping the MDE medical assistants by providing them with the guidance to ensure medical assistants are knowledgeable and hold the skills they need to excel in our centers and deliver exceptional patient services. This position requires a deep understanding of the role of a medical assistant, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to educational excellence.

All Optum Serve on-site staff and contractors must be fully vaccinated per CDC guidelines.

This is a traveling role that is patient facing, and requires traveling to and working in various MDE clinics and mobile clinics. It is customer facing with high expectations for operational excellence, particularly for maintaining compliance with Optum Serve, Federal, State, and Local regulatory, contractual, and organizational guidelines including HIPPA as outlined in training and policies/ procedures, quality assurance and improvement processes. Hours may vary based on location, travel, patient volume, and business needs. This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, verbal, written communication skills, in addition to patience and high-level of customer service to all patients and fellow staff

  • Always act professionally with minimal supervision as representative of Optum Serve

  • Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize, solve moderately complex problems while working both independently and collaboratively with others

  • Organize workload, set priorities, complete assignments in a timely manner and utilize resources appropriately while complying with organizational standards

  • Dedicated to building rapport with team members, internal and external customers, and management team by demonstrating a strong customer service orientation and a continuous positive image of Optum Serve

  • Traveling to different MDE offices and mobile clinics where medical assistants are working with veterans.Ensure consistency in training quality and compliance across multiple locations by conducting on-site visits and assessments

  • Work within mandated scope of certification in the state of the operation/ site

  • Punctual for work attendance and abide by work schedule

  • A highly skilled self-starter multitasker, with attention to detail

  • Provide support to medical assistants and other clinical/ non-clinical staff members

  • Monitor the progress of trainees, evaluate their performance, and provide constructive feedback.Regularly reassess proficiency against competency checklist

  • Stay up to date with state and federal regulations related to medical assistant scope of practice for assigned geographical area and certification/ training programs

  • Conduct regular compliance audits of facilities to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies

  • Organize and oversee clinical skills, ensuring trainees receive hands-on experience in various medical procedures and essential clinical skills such as venipuncture, vital sign measurement, and patient assessment

  • Promote a supportive and inclusive learning environment

  • Administer assessments and evaluate skills of medical assistant

  • Maintain accurate records of trainee progress

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to medical assistants in assigned area

  • Foster a culture of professionalism, empathy, and veteran- centered care

  • Review and edit reports in proprietary software application to ensure grammar and spelling in all areas for accuracy and consistency

  • Work with providers and operational teams to ensure reports are submitted timely and accurately

  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of reports for all lines of business

  • Actively identifying new areas for learning; regularly creating and taking advantage of learning opportunities; using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job and learning through their application

  • Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message

  • Work with VS Training and VS Medical to develop and implement training, development, informational, and/or educational programs, courses, curricula, training resources, lesson plans, materials, and visual aids

  • Present training, development, informational, and/or educational programs via classroom, workshop, or seminar using formal classroom instruction, exercises, handouts, materials, visual aids, etc. for group or one-on-one instruction

  • Provide recommendations regarding problems/needs, effectiveness of training resources, and implementation of new or modified programs, courses, curricula, training resources, lesson plans, materials, and visual aids

Required Qualifications:

  • Maintains unrestricted and in good standing certification as a Certified Medical Assistant

  • CPR certification

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License and ability to drive between work locations

  • 5+ years clinical experience as an MA with proficiency in venipuncture, ekg, PFT, and ABI tests

  • Experience as a lead, mentor or trainer

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to communicate with a diverse group of people/ disciplines at all levels of the organization

  • Basic computer skills, Microsoft Office Program skills, database experience

  • Willing and able to travel up to 75%

  • Must reside within 50 miles of a major US airport

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Military and/ or VA experience, previous work with veterans.

  • Travel experience
